[SST] Grenades

Mongoose
Are you content with they way they current work or should they be better (both the thrown and underslung varieties)? If you aren't thrilled with them, what are your recommendations for changes?

Underslung G/L – Frag = would be better with a LZ of 3"

Underslung G/L – Bugshot = would be better with a LZ of 2-3"; as is the requirement to ready makes this weapon almost useless unless the only targets left on the board have a Target of 8+ making them immune to the Flecette. The larger radius would at least make it worth shooting at warrior bugs.

Underslung G/L – Flechette = would be better with a LZ of 3"

Hand grenade - Depends. It's a little vague. Is that 5pts for a one shot or unlimited? Since it doesn't say "One-Shot" I'm assuming they are unlimited.

The key to the underslungs is to make them worthwhile in only special circumstances - such as Bug Shot to _maybe_ breach a tanker's armour, or flechette to maybe get more than one warrior when they are too close. They should never be a replacement for the Morita itself.

As for hand thrown grenades, I would be tempted to remove them. A unit throwing grenades is a pain in the bum due to all the lethal zones flying around. In WaW and Modern Combat, we assume grenades are used whenever units start shooting at one another with small arms, and factor this into the rifle stats.

The mid-way point between these is, of course, to give grenades Damage Dice without a Lethal Zone. However, you never want to replace the rifle, so we have found it better to abstract grenades out into the rifle's attacks.

Al that said, grenades will be coming back big tim in the Special Forces rules early next year, but the type of game being portrayed is very different.

Special Forces sounds great, but who's Big Tim?

Making them Slow with a short takes care of that. Ultimeatly ammo would be preferred, but that's a bog down on the game that makes it less fun to deal with.

Making them more effective, but Slow and One Shot for 5pts makes them just fine, IMHO.
