Rabidchild
Mongoose
Well I decided to make use of Hiromoon's excellent cards made from the BF:Evo stats for wave one put out in S&P a while back.
Team Goodguys:
1 unit of 8 skinnie raiders, 1 light neural beamer
1 unit of 8 skinnie raiders, 1 light neural beamer
1 unit of 10 skinnie soldiers, 2 neural beamers
Team Badguys:
1 unit of 10 LAMI with 2 missile launchers
1 unit of 10 LAMI with 1 missile launcher
1 unit of 3 grizzlies, all with twin sixguns
660pts for both armies.
Turn one:
Skinnies deployed in the middle of the board with one unit of raiders, and on the right side of the board with the soldiers. Raiders move forward but can't quite make it to cover of a wrecked spacecraft. They opt to use their second action to make cover rather than shoot at LAMI while standing in the open. Soldiers advance on the right behind a plateau and a building.
MI deployed evenly, not sure where my ambush would be. One LAMI on the right in a ruin, one on the left in a copse of trees with the grizzlies in the middle, spread out at full coherency. The grizzlies bounce forward and kill the 3 skinnie soldiers they could see through a gap between building and plateau. Soldiers move forward as reaction, suppressed. LAMI on the left move out of the woods to try to get into the fight. LAMI on the right fire at the raiders, killing all but two of them. Raider squad two deploys out of ambush and kills 4 LAMI as a reaction.
Turn Two:
Skinnies think they might have lost already, losing 6 raiders from one shoot action, ouch! The two surviving raiders shoot at the grizzly in the open, but it makes its saves even at -2. The grizzlies react by moving towards a large rock in the middle, only one doesn't make it behind the obstruction. Ambush raiders put their fire zone on the LAMI and the Grizzly but only manage to kill 2 LAMI, including the sgt. The suprressed soldiers fire on the one grizzly in the open and manage to kill it with the neural beamer and a failed save.
MI use the grizzlies to jump backwards, remembering their range advantage, and kill 5 of the ambush raiders. LAMI on the left occupy the position behind the rock where the Grizzlies just were. LAMI on the right take both actions to decide that a specialist is the highest rank left, so the ML becomes squad leader.
Turn Three:
Skinnies decide that the grizzlies are like tanks in Bf:E, ignore them and break the army. The two survivers from the raiders in the middle move to the left and take potshots at the LAMI behind the rock, killing one and surviving the one LAMI that could fire back. The ambushing raiders work out a new unit leader while the soldiers spread out as much as possible. They manage to line up on the 3 surviving LAMI on the right and wipe them out. A neural beamer can only see a grizzly and promptly puts a wound on him.
MI go for broke and double move the LAMI out from behind the rock, getting them all in cover of the wrecked spacecraft. The grizzlies jump forward and wipe out the middle raiders and a couple soldiers.
Turn Four:
Skinnies do quick math and realize they only need to kill 5 LAMI to break the MI. The soldiers fire the remaining beamer at a convenient line of 3 LAMI and kill them all! Only 2 more LAMI and I win! 4 constrictor rifles fire... and miss. LAMI reaction fire kills the last of the Ambushing raiders that happened to be standing in front of the soldiers and shatter me. Nooo!!
Lessons Learned
LAMI pack a lot of firepower! But die in droves.
Grizzlies are gods among men, but just like tanks, they run when the rest of the army shatters.
Neural Beamers are snipers if you want them to be, ignore armor rolls, and with a D6+3 will kill infantry dead.
Cover is king, as it is in BF:Evo. While the rule changes make it so Grizzlies can't jump into or out of cover, they can land behind obstacles and this makes them a tough nut to crack, but no longer the invincible force they were doing hit and runs out of a forest where no one could see them.
Skinnies are more survivable than their stats would indicate. A good move score, high numbers of models, and a universal 6+ save after armor saves makes them fairly tough.
First game of BF:Evo and we both came within 2-3 models of shattering each other on the same turn. Ladies and gentlemen, I think we have a winner. My only concern is the maneuverability of the grizzlies in an all exosuit army. I can see the skinnies having trouble getting to them, but once they do the low shatter point of the exo's will doom them.
Next up, Arachnids vs Skinnies.
