Spirit Magic

I'm on a roll ...

This has brobably been asked/discussed, (I have done a search but didn't see any topics on it), but ...

What are the rules for controlling spirits? I recall RQ3/4? bits about shamen having a fetch and engaging in spirit combat to gain spell spirits.

I think this is all rolled into Rune Magic now but while the RQM book talks about spell spirits there doesn't seem to be many rules about how it all works.

Of course I am probably missing something.

So it's covered as part of Glorantha and not in the "core" rules? That's kind of odd seeing as how the RQMonsters book mentions Binding Enchantments for Spell Spirits.

I haven't got the RQ Magic book, are binding enchantments in there? ( couldn't see anything in the main rulebook or the companion).

Binding Spirits is covered in the Companion or Deluxe under the enchanting rules - if you are lucky enough (or unlucky enough) to know where a spirit is.

Summoning a spirit is in CUlts of Glorantha 2.

There are also some summoning rules (and spirit evocation) in Signs & Portents Roleplayer (Mongooses free pdf mag) - see the index stickied at the top of this forum.

I was writing the cults book(s) and shamanism is an integral part of Gloranthan magic, so I wrote fairly extensively on it. As to Magic of Glorantha, I have no idea the extent to which shamanism is covered there as I have not looked at my copy of it in some time.

As an aside, I prefer the word animism (its the one Greg uses) and had written the book with that in mind but somehow the name got changed shamanism, where the worshipers are referred to as shamans, and overseen by more powerful worshipers called Shamans (who might, actually not be Shamans though) was needlessly confusing.

Shamens as worshipers? That sounds so wrong.

My copy of Runequest Magic is on it's way so I can have a look myself soon.

As I said, you'll probably be wanting Cults of Glorantha 2 for any details on shamanic magical practices and summonings.
