Spirit combat HP/MP question

Magic points are used for hit points in spirit combat, but do the spiritual hit points include any MP "sacrificed" to a cult. Otherwise a rune lord or priest that has dedicated nearly all his power to the cult is a sitting duck for anyone/anything that is able to attack in spirit combat.
My house rules say yes they are included but I haven't seen anything official.
