Spartacus class corvette

I remember it being the big thing with the Clans in BattleTech and there was something in the Star wars stuff about the Empire having modular ships - :)

Well, the upside of Omni-Tech is you only have to build 1 chassis and then the bits for all the variants, rather then a whole ship for each variant. Repairs would also be easier, the downside though would be that bits that are designed to come off might do so when you dont want em too (when your getting shot at for example).

Yeah, I know most of fantasy sci-fi has always made a big deal about it, just wondered if anyone has every made it work in real life. We standardized some parts for cars...but not really sure if anyone has gotten very far with standardizing a weapon chassis. Just doesn't seem the way militaries do things.

That's what I was looking for...

I can't tell from that page whether the individual mission profiles can be changed out easily or whether a specific chassis once assigned is essentially fixed in that role. It talks about adding additional commercial options where compatible and the mission calls for it, but again not sure if that is a plug and go option or a fixed addition.

Thank you though for the find... quite helpful... US army has done a number of variants on a basic hull for some time, commercial car manufacture does as well, but the changes tend to be fixed rather than 'modular'.
