I really think you should rethink not publishing SpaceQuest, and go ahead and create this so there will be some kind of modern and sci-fi rules for RuneQuest.

Despite being a huge Traveller fan (and showing a preference for CT/MT/T4 though T20 now gets a look in in our games) I have to agree. We have messed around with the old Chaosium ruleset several times in the past to produce SF games, frequently using Traveller but sometimes other homebrewed or fiction-based backgrounds. Our last group effort which remained unfinished was an attempt to use MRQ to create a game in Charlie Stross' Eschaton Universe (stillborn unfortunately due to at least 2 of my gaming group having overseas operations comittments).

A generic set of Spacequest rules would be nice.

I concur. I've been using BRP to run 2300AD (and now 2320AD), Traveller (rebellion setting), Blade Runner, and Space:1889 for decades. Mainly because GDW's systems were pants.

Thing is, they would have to find a setting that would appeal to enough people yet wouldn't be too much like other settings.
Tough call.

Maybe a generic 'setting' such as the one I use.
My overall rules were BRP under the umbrella of 'the worlds of philip k dick' My settings books were:
1-Blade Runner
2-Festung Europa (from 'the man in the high castle')
3-Eye in the sky
4-Solar Lottery
5-Ubik

I've been running games from these settings for over 25 years.

Mongoose did say if they could get a particular license (unnamed though) that space quest would be back on. Give it time. I'm sure if they do not ever do it they may do a modern runequest, or possibly do spacequest via signs and portents.

I saw that post from Matt, and I hope they get whatever license it is. On the other hand if enough people show support for SpaceQuest without this license, it will show Mongoose that SpaceQuest is a viable product on it's own and worth publishing now.

I might. But at the same time, mongoose is a small company with very efficient staff. Space quest would simply be too much to do, now at least.

I am not saying that i would buy ANY setting for SQ (some settings are not really my cup of tea), but i would buy a LOT of them, even when they would get as numberous as the RQ settings.

I would even buy a SQ Traveller, but the Traveller setting is it not worth (IMHO) to get into another game system again...

I am very interested in new version of Traveller and will probably get it (barring any financial problems).

But I would have been very interested to see SpaceQuest. There were some speculation on what license might bring it on and more I think about it the more I begin to agree that it has to be Hero or some other supers license. Why? Because Matt said that it would show how flexible the system really is and I can't really see any game that needs more flexibility than a supers game.

Me, I would settle for Battlefield RPG based on MRQ rules. BFE RPG, that is not the computer game.

I believe that Chaosium were soliciting an author for a sci-fi companion volume to their forthcoming BRP: Chaosium's d100 System book.

However, knowing how slowly Chaosium get things published I wouldn't expect to see it for a couple of years.

Also, there is Avenger Enterprises' Translight, a BRP derived sci-fi system currently in playtest. As far as I can tell, this is what became of a Traveller BRP conversion project that got canned.
