Space Romance Movies...
Just read about SONY's Passengers getting the greenlight for filming.

What are some other space romance movies, besides Solaris. Looking to do something along this line using Traveller and my NPC generator. I'm sure there are lots of this kind of movie. But my mind is fried a bit right now.

Give me a clue, what defines a 'space romance'?

In this case, it is just a simple love story (could be a chick-flick like The Notebook or Letter in a Bottle) that takes place in space. Either on a spaceliner or on a generation ship or on a spacelab of some kind. Something tragic did or will happen on the ship. And an airlock is involved usually.

The other kind of space romance would be the old HG Wells, and Jules Verne stories (like Out of Africa or Dances with Wolves, but on Mars or Venus). Avatar fits in that category.

Saturn 3 can't be all there is, I hope. That was more space horror though.

I did a prison planet in the past that was a love story thing. But I was looking to do something similar in space with scientists/colonists this time, instead of harvested tourists. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjKPW_Hxf4c

Space Station 76 (2014) might just scrape in. Moon Zero-Two (1969) barely qualifies (if you are overly generous!) but it's not got a lot of romance. The 'space romance' is hardly a popular genre, though.

A few Sci Fi time traveling ones recently like About Time.
Another category not quite "space"/otherworldly as you describe it would be future earth settings like Oblivion or The Matrix.

A few more "spacey" off the top of my head
One of my favorite movies: 5th Element
John Carter
Lost in Space
Star Wars
Starship Troopers
Galaxy Quest
Serenity
Kirk seams to have a woman in most TV episodes, I'm sure some of the Star Trek movies must of had a little romance?

For some of these, the romance is certainly not a major part of the movie

Haven't seen it, but I've heard about The Fountain. Lots of anime has romantic elements. Again, haven't seen but have heard good things about Nausicaa.

The Classic "Forbidden Planet" would be a Space Romance (retelling of Shakespeare's The Tempest).

A good deal of your 40s and 50s space scifi can be included as there was always a female 'romantic interest' on board. No matter how savvy a crewperson she was portrayed though, she seemed on board looking for her heroic future husband.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture was definitely a space romance between Decker and Illia.

Book wise I'd recommend quite a few written by Linnea Sinclair I believe a movie was being filmed of one of her books, Down Zombie Blues or something along those lines.

There's one that's a sort of magic spaceship meets a law abiding version of Jango Fett if by law abiding I meant commander of a space station.

Would Ice Pirates count?

I was thinking about that movie. But I don't think it is the same genre or theme. Maybe too much fantasy (prince and princess kind of deal).

Moon Zero-Two falls in the '60s Go-Go sci-fi theme. No romance (love story) that I remember being in it. Space romance is hardly popular, you're right on that.

I have both those movies. Will take a look at them. Thanks.

Those all fall in the Space Opera genre, unfortunately. Done too many of those with Traveller over the decades already. The last 5 Traveller games I was in were all 5th Element themed.

Hmmm.... Matrix... Let me check....

Woke up this morning with that movie playing on my TCM. Not enough romance parts. Not enough Abyss in it. I'm thinking Abyss is going to be my next new one-shot thing to do. But in a vacuum instead of in water.

You have chosen wisely. Excently example there. You're so right. That's a keeper for my Traveller list.

STARMAN of course. FIFTH ELEMENT Leeloo and Korbin Dallas,

Here is list of novels, to my knowledge none adapted for movies.

Almost all Sci-fi romance movies involve time travel i.e. TIME AFTER TIME.

I'm not good at doing time travel stuff yet in Traveller for anything more than a one-shot. I would love to do a Dynastic time-travel thing with TL 18-22 stuff, but it would be too space opera-ish the way it'd come out if I tried right now.
