Mongoose
I've never been a comic-book reader, not since I was in Jr. High. But, I have friends who still love them.
In my Conan phase, now, I have been persuaded to pick up The Savage Sword of Conan reprints. I mean, they're only $11 or $12 bucks from Amazon. So, I took a chance and bought the first one.
I can't believe how much I'm enjoying reading this thing. Like I said, I've always preferred novels and anthologies. Comics aren't my "thing". I'll go see a super hero movie, and I usually like them. But, I'm not super crazy about them like many are.
I'm really enjoying the Conan comics, though. The stories, are, well, ...good.
And, I was thinking. These make good fodder for the GM to whip up a Conan adventure. I mean, some of the stories are pretty simple.
Take Night of the Dark God, for example. It's an adaptation of a non-Conan Howard story. It's a simple story. One could set it up with his players (especially if one of the PCs or a favored NPC can be kidnapped), throw together some Vanir. A fort for them. And, boom, you've got a neat little, short, one-or-two-night Conan adventure.
Shouldn't take that much work to put together.
Some of the stories are more complicated...and they're there for the more complicated GM to mine.
But, yeah, if you're not a comic book reader, and you've got the Conan itch, then try out The Savage Sword of Conan reprints. It's not a bad value for $12 bucks, and you can consider the book a game aid!
