So Gencon happened...any news?

I'd be quite interested too.
Im asusming most of the Mongoose promotion went toward the new B5 wargame and traveler/Runequest though.

:?
Im guessing thats a big negatory on the news frount...

Did anyone at least get too see Gygax? Thats almost as exciting as another delay :D

A Mongoose booth person told me
"We are trying very hard to get the advanced rule book out by Nov. and the miniatures begining next year"
I am afraid that Rackham has put the bar pretty high......
I played a demo game, bought some TacArm powersuit minis and a rulebook and I have to say I am impressed..... Nice poses, details, painting, moveable and interchangeable arms and heads.....terrain pieces....great artwork.....Start gaming right outta the box.....
I have to admit that I sometimes don't pay enough attention and I was miffed that Mongoose would take my fav storyline, put out a decent set of rules and minis for gaming, and then put the whole thing on hold....
But after seeing the AT-43 stuff, I know now there was no other sensible marking decision that could have been made.
They were also previewing a future ape race, in power armor suits with both "standing erect" and "on all fours" postures.... a real ape marauder

We just put a bulk order in for £300 worth of AT-43.
Two factions almost complete, third well on it's way, the Gorillas (Karman) in November and race 4 early next year... that's a release schedule
Got tired of waiting :(

as long as you're back for more SST in the future :D

I've got some AT-43 on my shelves also, though can't decide between UNA or Red Block.

I was at the Mongoose booth a few times and talked to the guys there. I picked up two copies of the new B5ACTA and then later got 2 copies of the new Conan RPG for myself and a friend. A single shipment of Conan books arrived during the show, went on sale at 11am and when I checked back was sold out around 4pm.

I saw demos being run at the booth for BFE:Evo, B5ACTA, and what I believe was Cthulhu Tech.

I had planned to get into the SST tournament at noon on Thursday, but we had arrived at 4am that morning and I got sidetracked in the Exhibit hall. I did find out where the mini games were 15 minutes after the start time and stopped in about an hour late to say hello. There was hardly any turnout but I wasn't surprised since it was scheduled early on a Thursday.

I did inquire about the new rules for SST and got the general impression that November would be likely. This reinforced the information I'd seen on various online retail sites that have the rules available for pre-order.

@MaxSteiner- I did see Gygax from the aisle- he looked like any other elder game designer. Of more interest were the ladies at the Conan Hyborean Age PC game booth.

I don't blame you dude lol!
Im wondering if he's been brought on for D&D 4th edition?
I think most of my fascinations more to do with looking through some old Knights of the Dinner Table comics than anything else :D

@HumanTarget

I finally took your advice and read my way through most of Starman, you're right its awesome!

I can assure you that hasn't and won't happen.

GG deserves credit for popularizing/inventing FRPGs, but he has some shall we say, "interesting" ideas about running games and rule sets.

lol tell me about it :D
His guide to good roleplay published in the 80's (Found it in a hippy bookshop for 50p, who could say no to that!) kinda blew my mind, pretty interesting despite itself though.

I just assumed that WoTC were going to splash his name on the cover of the new edition and get him to write a bit of blurb at the frount or something like that.

From what I gathered the folks at MGP are pushing to get the ST EVO rules book on the shelf before the new models come out. They kinda confessed that they messed up with getting the BFE rules book out so late.
Hope they learn more lessons adapt.

It's all pretty good, we are getting the lot as a 'group buy' same as we did for SST v1.... some good games having everything available to everybody.
We are leaving SST for a while, until we know what's happening exactly, time is the issue for our group. Waiting around just loses players. We'll skip it until it's stable and established.
Worry now is the band wagon is rolling...... I said about six weeks ago GW wouldn't be far behind, and when they release pre-paints they'll be ready the day after it's officialy announced. Looks like Spacehulk is going to reappear soon, guess what kind of figures :) Lots of reports saying it's a fake story, but I'm not so sure.
They can't be far off releasing something pre-painted. My other guess is Blood Bowl... ideal first foray.

Funny you should say that Jose :D
I was chatting with someone just the other day, and a pretty convincing possibility was floated out.
Maybe GW's ultimate plan is to push the price of the existing kits up year upon year in place of a proper business plan, until the profits dip below functional levels (As they appear to have done this year lol).
Then they can release prepainted miniatures at the same inflated price and the faithfull can say stuff like 'Wow they cost the SAME as unpainted miniatures, these are awesome value!!!!' to their parents :D

I really hope they do go with Spacehulk prepainted. I think that Necromunda and Bloodbowl are al games which could do really well in that format, and if nothing else it might see GW heading back vaguelly into the right direction :D

So you don't remember another gaming company, who shall remain nameless, making the same claim a while ago? :)

See, I feel exactly the opposite. Necromunda and Blood Bowl are small-scale games, with individual pieces that often develop individual histories. It makes sense to keep those in a customizable, DIY format. Where I think pre-paints make sense are the big games: 40K and Warhammer. And even there you start out with pre-painted line troops and keep the character figures as paint it yourself. IMHO, anyway.

Space Hulk is a bit of a borderline case, since the Genestealers end up being pretty generic, but the Terminators can be individualized. I'd lean toward pre-paints, but I can see arguments either way.

Ah, but you're forgetting how customisable the AT-43 figures are :D
Replacable heads and arms, I don't think weapons would be to impossible either.
Im thinking that prepaints are better for starter boxes instead of a whole game line as well.
I never really saw that many customised Necromunda gangs or Bloodbowl teams while I was playing anyway (at least not using official GW figures ).

As for the Mongoose claim, well alot of what they said over the past year and a half didn't pan out, I figure I can wait till the miniature lines back on its feet before recommencing the slatting of naff figures and high prices :D
