slaine RQ gossip

Mongoose
HI guys whent to salute and got a whole lot of answers to questions about slaine its awaiting the space on the printers but the book should be one of the best looking mongoose have ever produced as it is almost completly the new computer art work and also pre-speach so better than last edition with warp spasms now becoming a legendary feat.

was told the slaine book, the RQ corebook and the monsterbook is all you need 8) with legendary heros good for abilites but not essential(now have the core and monster book awaiting on slaine now :D )

it seems the general approach they take to settings is a main book, and then rely on normal RQ material for the rest.

Im actually pretty cool with that

It would be silly. There are already much material under D20 rules (a 4 book campaign + 4 clan books + 1 companion). Where would be the need for me to buy it for the sole pleasure to buy a new rule book.

One reason would be that RQ rules work differently from d20 rules. Of course, if you like old rules over RQ then I don't see why to get the new book other than to support the line and possibly encourage Mongoose to actually keep RQ version of Slaine alive.

yes of course, the rules are different but if you have all D20 books for Slaine, you'll have no reason to buy the RQ Slaine book. On the other way, if you don't have them and only have RQ, you'd probably like something to play with.

I was (and still am) no fan of the D20 rules but these one are modified and as near as they can be to the BRPG rules (the same applies to Conan RPG). Anyway, I wouldn't mind for some adventures with RQ rules.

I own Conan (first edition, not AE), Slaine and RQ (among other things). When the Mongoose releases RQ Slaine, I will probably buy it. Personal choice, nothing else :)

I think I'll buy Slaine RQ only if there is other stuff scheduled. But indeed it would be great if there were more to this than the mere rule book because with some conversion work, we could have much material for Slaine. 8)

I definately buy the RQ Slaine, dislike d20. I would also like to see other books for it. But I am hoping that some of the things I want a book for are covered in the core book.

Saw the new cover on the web page. Looks really good!!!! I'm glad to see the book went from 96 to 104 pages!

Glad you like the cover! Final page count not yet finalised, so it may yet change a bit more...

I know nothing of Slaine and finding the old D20 stuff is extremely hard (plus when I did see the D20 stuff, it looked like nothing more than more D20 glut/landfill back then, anyway....could have been great for all I know, but when a dumptruck backs up and unloads a ton of dirt on you, it's hard to notice the gold nuggets mixed in...)

Nonetheless, Slaine looks very tempting, and the fact that it is now Runequest means I'll probably buy it!

I must admit when Slaine first came out I was gutted that it was D20. I hate the system from it's rigid class system through to it's miniature based combat rules.
I also have no love for WotC and the way that all major bookshops (at least here in the UK) seem to think that D&D and White Wolf stuff are the only roleplaying books anyone wants to buy.
But the actual books are well worth tracking down as they contain a wealth of decent info that at the least helps if you want to convert it to a different system. Not sure how much of it is going to be cut and pasted into the new MRQ version though.....
