Oh no the dreaded in Game Riddle.... to often players like to pretend they are so smart.... I hate them. Puzzles and trick questions, I am ok with. Poerty I can understand. Give me a riddle and I am f**ked

riddles can be fun... but there are times when the player doesnt know the answer, but the character should... what would you guys do then?


im not a fan of "lets just roll dice"

Well theres a few options

The first is the roll dice which I also dislike.

The second is to allow the player as many guesses as they have an int modifier (thus the intelligent character has a better chance).

Third, allow the role to give an additional clue

Fourth pay the consequences of not being able to answer (ie attacked).

Riddles I feel shouldn't be used as a central plot device, rather more a way of unlocking 'extras'. ie you don't have to answer the riddle to solve the problem at hand, but doing so might mean you gain a special bonus.

as the druids speak in riddles and rules the party have it easier if they can work it out but in true slaine style lots of violence will do the trick as well :wink:

Yes it is in fact air! I agree die rolls are silly but giving the players chances at trying to guess it based on Int stat makes sense. Maybe even give a subtle hint.

I think it can really add to a campaign.
