Mongoose
An agreement of mutual obligation by which a lower ranking mwmber of celtic society(the client)would pledge allegiance to an individual of higher rank(the patron) in exchange for security, patronage and employment.A similar system often linked entire clans and tribes.

Was thinking of using this in the campain with brothers against each other due to belonging to rival patrons also a group of good warriors with a very bad noble leader the only way to free then is in ritual duel.

I think that would really make for some quality role-playing and make for a dramatic story. I was thinking of loosely adapting The Lion in Winter by James Goldman into a campaign idea. Any thoughts or ideas on this Toothhill?

Lion in Winter (1968): " In this 12th-century version of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Henry II of England (Peter O'Toole) and his wife, Eleanor of Aquitaine (Katharine Hepburn), meet on Christmas Eve to discuss the future of the throne. These two are having slight marital problems, as she is kept in captivity most of the year for raising a rebellion against him, and he flaunts his young mistress. Then there are the problems raised by their three treacherous and traitorous sons.

James Goldman won an Oscar® for the brilliant screenplay, based on his Broadway play. It is a tad wordy, as the action is kept to a minimum, but those words are sharp as daggers. The humor is wicked and black and delivered with very dry, dead-on precision. Sparks fly and the screen sizzles whenever Hepburn and O'Toole tango, which is often. Both were nominated for Academy Awards® for their vigorous performances. (She won; he didn't.) There's also an infamous homo-erotic exchange between Philip of France (Timothy Dalton) and Richard the Lionhearted (Anthony Hopkins). Both actors were making their feature-film debuts." --Rochelle O'Gorman

Great flick and yes very inspiring for a Slaine Campaign......

also ran the idea as a new druidess gained a bodyguard who was the player for a solo DM/player game his position was clear but as the girl got a crush on the lower station warrior things got very intreasting :D just a idea as he cannot refuse a order but she is not allowed to ever forget her place above him.
