Skip Bombing

Reading about the 5th Airforce in the SW Pacific. Skip bombing was used by US aircraft.
NOTE: I use DM's method for high level bombing. Roll the AD if you get a six then roll each dice that rolled a six for a normal attack.

Would skip bombing have a better chance of getting hits? The pilots in 5th Airforce had to have extra training for this method of attack. In one example of a large attack two squadron's of B-17's attacked a convoy only one used skip bombing. A new unit to the area was not trained in skip bombing.

Yes, a much better chance. The level mombing mod is aplied to those aircraft that made theit attacks from medium to high level. Refere to B-17 successes during Midway for a good example of the high probabilities of success when using this mode of atack :)

Conversely, skip bombing was conducted at very low level, so the "level bombing" approach isn't appropriate.

I'm working ona slightly developed version of all of this for an &P article (which will include the extra 200-odd aircraft types that were statted up fo OOB no sense in wasting all that work :D)
