Skills (any)

Hi,

Scattered around the core rule book are references to skills with the level (any) next to them. For example on p10, the 1st Personal Development skill is listed as Gun Combat(any).

What does this mean? I tend to think of it as having the Gun skill at either level 1 or 0 and with a specialisation of one of Slug Rifle, Slug Pistol, Shotgun, Energy Rifle, Energy Pistol.

TIA

Ian

The (ANY) is referencing that you can choose between the different versions of Gun Combat...Ballistic, Energy...

If you have Gun 0 then you can fire any gun.

If you have Gun 0 and also Gun(Rifle) 1, it means that you have had additional training with Rifles and get a +1 on your rolls when using a rifle.

You don't loose your Gun 0 skill when you get the Rifle 1, it is a specialty within the overarching Gun skill.

The same holds true for all skills that have specialties (such as Engineering).

Hi All,

Thanks for your help.

OK, I can follow that in the rules so far. If I'm rolling up a character and I get gun(any) and I choose gun(rifle)then that means I have gun 0 (can fire any gun without a penalty) and rifle 1 (can fire a rifle with a +1 bonus).

Have I got that bit right?

TIA

If it's part of your basic training for that career, then Gun Combat (any) simply means that you have Gun Combat at level 0 (with no speciality yet).

If you get Gun Combat (any) because you have rolled it as a term skill, or a bonus advancement skill (or for any other reason), then you can raise it a level in any particular speciality of your choice. If you roll any skill from a table, and it doesn't specify a level, then it automatically starts at level 1 (and goes 1 higher if you already have a level).
