This advantage is reflected in the relative successes of the two races. The elves occupy almost an entire continent, whereas the trolls occupy.....er.....little pot holes.

The elves "high spot" is Errinoru's Jungle Empire in Pamaltela, which apparently only held together as long as Errinoru was there
The Trolls ruled Arkat's Dark Empire before the other Empires got started
The Only Old One continued to rule over Shadow Plateau in the holy country until the coming of the Pharoh
The Trolls rule over the Kingdom of Ignorance
The Kitori Tribe is a mixed Orlanthi/Troll tribe, and part of the Kingdom of Sartar

Dagori Inkarth has been under Uz rule since they left Wonderhome. How about Valind's Glacier?

I did think about places like Dagori Inkarth, Hakliv and the Blue Moon Plateau, but then the Big Elf Forests have been under Elf control since before Time as well, so I restricted my list to places where the Uz were ruling over non trolls as well as there own kind.

Of coruse, if both sides were really intelligent, they would join together to protect themselves from encroachment from the real menace, humans.

If both sides could work past their ideological differences (not likely in Glorantha) the combined army would be devastating. Runner would work well with Trollkin, and Elf archers would be fantastic support for Uz heavy infantary and calvary. Throw in some Sun Dome Yelmalions, and you got a very effective army that could stand up to practically anyone in Glorantha.

Ha Ha Ha Ha! I can see it now. I'm imagineing a modern, 60's era Glorantha where everyone gets along with eachother. Long haired tree hugging trolls wander around forests trippin on acid, preaching about free love and male equality. While elf "meatgans" refuse to use any products that were tested on plants or eat anything that contains plants. Seeds and nuts are ok though since they haven't germinated yet, and thus are not true "plant". The most influential elf singer, Jon Lenntleleaf relases the hit song "Imagine there's no Yelm"

I was thinking more along the lines of how in most RPG settings, the "Elder Races" are dying off, and reduced to mostly protecting relatively small areas, while surrounded by an ever expanding humanity. We never see any exanpionist races other than humans, or the occasional "monster" species (like Orcs). It all seems to stem from the "why we don't have Elves/dwarves/etc." try of fantasy setting.
This isn't quite as true in Glorantha, but still has some truth to it.

Elves and Trolls fight each other over some hills, while the Lunars come an annex the surrounding Kingdom(s). It would make sense for these species to recognize the common threat and form some sort of mutual protection pact before they get wiped out.

I did understand what you were talking about. I also agree with your statment. It merely conjured funny images in my head of a bunch of modernistic hippie Glorathans. "What would it be like if they did get along?" kind of thing.

His cousin Brain wants to usurp the ruby throne and rule the Young Kingdoms ("That'a alright Brain, I'd rather go on a world trip, anyway. Besides, I don't want to to be here when that storm that Stormbringer is bringing gets here. Muddy Soles on my Air Jordans!")
