Shut up, Spock! – how Battlestar Galactica beat Trek babble

They even threw in a massive but un-shown space-time continuum devastating event between themselves and Old Who (The Time War) to create as much narrative distance for themselves as possible from it.

To be fair, that was also put in because it was considered an inevitable outgrowth of the stories from the old series.

Sure. I'm not criticising them for it, just showing the lengths they went to in distancing themselves from the previous continuity, which had suffered from exactly the problems we're discussing.

Well it worked well enough, I mean didnt Sylvester McCoy's Doctor practically wipe out all his enemies by the end of his run with no chance of them returning?

I am going by memory and I am quite young by Who fan standards (McCoy was the Doctor I grew up with) so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Either way the Time War gets past the awful writing constrictions and plot-holes that would arise because of the length of the series and how history today is different than say, how the '60s portrayed the 2010 era.

I was at Uni by then and had lost interest in Who. Red Dwarf was more my bag by then.

So the Time War is why I don't have my personal jet pack and atomic car. I knew there had to be a good reason. Still, at least we have iPhones.

On the plus side, it's also why we are spared 1960's "future fashion" metallic shell suits.

Except, of course, for chavs.

LOL .... lots ....

This would have been a keyboard kill, if it wasn't for the fact I had just put my tea down. As it was I just have to clean up the slight spill on my desk from my hand shaking so much.

Best regards,

Ewan
