Well, technically we do but if we're going by the Mongoose version of the Gecko, it's simply a modified MAC hauler.

Now, the one I've named 'Komodo' is based off the one you see the Roughnecks tooling around in on Earth, and moving to support a firing line on Pluto.

As a quick handwave, one coudl always say the MI only normally deploy APCs in a strategic role, so they don't appear on the battlefield.

Thats what I've been saying for (p)ages!

And how do you know its supporting them just because it drives up? you never see it fire, it could've been sent to withdraw the MI or the Unit was on a strategic move before attacked ororor...
Besides, with the crazy inability of the bugs to tunnel any trenches shown in the series, I seriously don't think much of their strategy and tactics would fit into the mongoose sst.

Just think of the episode where the ripplers first show up and the arachnids just send HUNDREDS of warriorbugs and finally even multiple tankers to break a single squad of MI...

In the tabletop/mongoose sst-verse 10 tunneling warriors would finish the whole thing off...

Because, cOwgummi, I recall it having a few marauder suits lumbering along with them. I don't think you're going to be withdrawing with those things without some air asset to pick up and hoist.

In addition, you see them in a few cut scenes where they're firing a regular gun and a missile...

Edit: Well, why have bunkers and outpost walls if the bugs are going to tunnel in? A trench is a basic defense thing that may or may not save your life, since not all bugs tunnel.

I was confused by the trench in that episode, the only thing I could think of was that it was there to allow the laser fire over the heads of the front line troops more easily.

well does SICON have something else besides MI? cos mobile infantry are called that due to the suits and the orbital drops. if the earthers had a standard army i could see tanks but not within the mobile infantry.

All these points have been made before (many many times), that isn't enough to bridge the great divide (Despite sounding incredibly sane and sensible, and offering both sides eactly what they want)...

But they are inspired by the book, sure they might not hold a candle to the suits in the book but thats for game balance, do you really want to play a game where you have literally one model on the board as i doubt the board represents more than a mile and a half.

I'd love an army which was just the one model, it'd make for a really enjoyable change of pace, and definatly offers something which you don't ever get to see in anything other than Ogre :D
Unfortunatly no companies gonna do that, they want to make some money lol.

Well, in the book you had different Corps
- Mobile Infantry
- 'Games & Theory'
- Neo-Dog Corps

Etc.

For Mongoose there's only two branches
- Mobile Infantry
- Fleet

Under the Mobile Infantry you have, at least under v1 rules
- Originally Cap Troopers supported by Marauder suits (plus Pathfinders, but shhh, they're Special Forces)
- For Klendathu the need for more soldiers over-rode training standards, and Light Armored Mobile Infantry were created.
- After Klendathu you start seeing exosuits start being fielded. Now in the RPG at this time we have more and more ground vehicles deployed for missions that either require transportation of cargo through areas where air travel is prohibitive, or LAMI units are deployed in great numbers. There's other situations, but I'm sure you can think of 'em.
- Another Development is the Mobile Infantry Air Corps, providing the Mobile Infantry with it's own air assets (RPG until Mongoose puts one out for the Miniatures game)

For Fleet, you have
- Dreadnoughts (armed with more than 3 dozen primary weapon systems , but costly to construct and maintain while on manuvers)
- Corvette Transports (Transports held in reserve until the MI need to deploy en masse, cost prohibitive to use as a cargo transports when not hauling apes)
- Frigates (smaller than a corvette transport, it's effectively an armored gunship)
- Heavy Transport (modular, easy to maintain and repair, can be reconfigured into anything the MI or Fleet needs within 24 hours)
- Haulers
- Transports
- Fighters and Landers

Hiro: Forgot about Neo-Dogs, although the book doesn't deal with them too much. My bad.

hegemon: I agree that an actual "by the book" scale (with 1000 dead bugs for every dead trooper) is impossible to reproduce for a tabletop game. Tabletop M8 marauders do come pretty close though (I'd arm them in a different way, but that's where conversions and custom rules come in).

Lorcan Nagle: I was talking about the CGI. I'd (also) love to see the Japanese Anime suits though.

Hiro, don't forget Military Intelligence (which incorporates "Games and Theory").

IIRC, Pathfinders were actually a new unit for Klendathu as well. They didn't even have the M1A6 suits yet.

I'm still trying to figure out whether the Foxfire Gunships are a Fleet or MI asset. The show has them as Fleet (of course, they also show them launching from space...) and the book is vague enough to go either way.

Well, the Mobile Infantry Handbook (RPG) lists the Foxfire Gunship as a Mobile Infantry asset, though it COULD go either-way.

Well if this debate actually pressures mongoose into releasing new stuff so we stop arguing, than thats a reason to keep aruging
