Ships papers and Ships descriptive text

In the style of the original LBB's and the traveller book, I am putting together a descriptive paragraph text for the ships papers as found in the original LBB's.

It is far from finished but I figured that some of you may like to use the same thing, or find some ways of improving it.

That said, here it is. (note, it is not fully complete, just complete enough for my needs right now)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<Ship Name><Ship Registry>is a member of the <Ship Class> series of vessels. Designed as a <Ship Descriptive Name>(Type <Ship Type>)
<Ship purpose and background notes>.

Using a <Streamlining Type><Tonnage>-Displacement Ton hull, the <Ship Descriptive Name> is <Description of Duties>.
It mounts <Jump Drive-<Jump Drive type>;><Maneuver Drive-<maneuver drive type>;> and Power Plant <power plant type>, giving a performance of <Jump -<Jump Number>,> <and <Maneuver Number>-G acceleration>.

Fuel tankage for <Total fuel Tankage> tons supports the power plant for a total period of <Total powerplant time> and <total jumps> jump-<Jump Number>
The ship carries <Fuel Processor Tonnage>, allowing for the processing of <processing tonnage> tons of fuel an hour.

Adjacent to the bridge is a computer Model <Model Type and options>
The standard software suite includes <List of Software>.
The ship mounts a <Electronics Suite Type> , which includes <List of included sensor types> and displaces <Electronics displacement> tons.

As a <Vessel Type>, the ship normally operates with a <complement type> crew complement which includes <number of pilots> pilot(s), <number of navigators> navigator(s), <number of engineer> engineer(s), <number of medics> medic(s), <number of gunners> gunner(s),<number of stewards> stewards, <number of officers> officers,<number of flight crew> flight personel, <number of security personel> security personel, <number of repair> repair Crew, <number of cargo handlers> cargo handler(s) and <number of crew specialists> crew specialist(s).
The ship carries <number of pilots> pilot(s), <number of navigators> navigator(s), <number of engineer> engineer(s), <number of medics> medic(s), <number of gunners> gunner(s),<number of stewards> stewards, <number of officers> officers,<number of flight crew> flight personel, <number of security personel> security personel, <number of repair> repair Crew, <number of cargo handlers> cargo handler(s) and <number of crew specialists> crew specialist(s) in cold watch capules.
There are <> displacement tons dedicated to escape pods.

The ships standard droid complement includes <droid listing> aiding the standard crew complement.

The ship is fitted with <stateroom count> staterooms, <double stateroom count> double occupency staterooms, <cold berth count> cold berths and <emergency cold berth count> emergency cold berths. The ship is fitted with <luxury tonnage> tons of luxury upgrades.

The ship is designed to carry the following ships vehicles <ships vehicles> and has an additional <flight deck tonnage> tons dedicated to it's flight deck.
The ship normally carries the following vessels on it's flight deck <flight deck list>

The ship has <cargo tonnage> displacement tons dedicated to cargo and <reserve tonnage> displacement tons reserved for future upgrades.

The ship is fitted with <count of spinal mounts> spinal mounts, <count of small bays> small bays, <count of medium> medium bays and <count of> large bays. The ship has <barbette count> barbettes <normal hardpoint count> normal hardpoints and <popup hardpoint count> popup hardpoints.
The normal weapon complement includes <>.

It takes <build time> weeks at a tech level <TL> class <starport class> starport to produce the vessel, displacing <construction bays> ship construction bays.

The <Ship Class> costs <empty cost> Mcr. empty and <loaded cost> Mcr. with a standard load.

To explain why I am doing this, here is a link to the ships papers that are generated by my ship building program in openoffice.

Since I am not allowed to publish the actual ship building routines, I figured I would share at least some of the material so that others could reproduce the work easily.

I will only publish the final spreadsheet once Matt and gang have published the legal rules for this sort of material.

best regards

Why not just finish with a fourth page for a deck plan if they wih to add it. It could be like the third page but with a grid background (maybe light grey (50% or so).

I am doing the deckplans, the commercial papers, and two other forms.

Like I posted earlier, it is not complete yet.

The spreadsheet actually fills in the form, from the starship building calculations - the only thing that would be filled in by the user would be the deckplans.

I have not even centered the forms on the pdf output......

but like I said, I am posting this to give others the idea of what is possible since we are not allowed to give this sort of thing out. Once the basic forms are done, I will give them away to those who want them.

What about ship owners and the bank(s) holding the mortgage on the form?

I have put that into the operations page as well as the economic viability info.

I am currently reformatting the page layout and I have already been able to generate static html pages from the document.

Once I have the proof of concept finished, I will be reformatting the order the different sections are presented including a place for an image of the vessel.

I am doing my best to cover all the various elements that have been used in traveller over the decades. With the intention of being able to design the ship in the spreadsheet and having it generate everything I need up to the final ships papers.

I may even have a go at having it generate the crew and list their dossiers but that is for later down the path I am on.

best regards

Dalton

I think it is extremely unfortunate that you are not allowed to distribute the spreadsheet, because it would be very helpful to beleaguered Traveller referees such as myself.

In any event, the forms themselves look great. I would love to see a good character sheet done in this style :)

Er? what's this about not being able to distribute a fan generated ship construction spreadsheet? Things like this have been the hallmark of the online traveller community for years. Kinda like fan created equipment and adventures.

If you see the thread about character creator software - you will see that msprange said "no"

As the material in the core book is not OGL and the SRD has not been released yet, I can not release a ship building software, even though it is based upon a spreadsheet.

I have most of the forms recreated in a better format and I am going to do a ship's roster included detailed character dossier in this format.
I wish I had good clean artwork for the various logos (marines, navy, scouts, LSP, etc) so that I could put them into the forms for the different services.
