Cosmic Mongoose
I will never complain about the layout of a book ever again......

well It has arrived. Ships of Gold is complete. It is basic, it is not the flashiest thing you will ever read..and so help me If I make a penny off this I am going to go take some classes for Indesign.

224 pages, artwork, writing, layout ( cough cough) by yours truly. It will be available shortly. I will update the files as corrections or refinements are needed.
Still haven't set a price point yet, but looking at what's out there.

Digital Book Publishing is harder than many believe. Bravo for diving into the pool. Looking forward to seeing your efforts. :D

Its been a real experience let me tell ya. Not sure how it will look to other folks. I'm happy with the material..and the art...but mmmm well you guys will have to tell me how I did putting it together.

Congratulations, that is quite an accomplishment!

I'd never have tried to do it if few friends hadn't pushed me Then when Mongoose thought my work was good enough to give a serious look at I was a bit surprised. and then there's a couple of years of swapping ideas here and over at Coti, which helped a LOT. I'll be happy if I manage to avoid being laughed off the boards...

Two hundred pages is impressive; you can never proofread enough.
To be honest I could probably have cut that down to smaller size if I knew a few more tricks with setting things up.

BUT there is a t of stuff in there.
Accommodation upgrades, workshops, etc..some are now in 2.0 but not 1e
Utility Pod from 30 to 500 tons
small craft,drones, dropship, racing boats
10 ton EVA /atmospheric combat ...ummm "security "pod
20,30,50 ton fighter
automated transport and cargo drones.

Light starships 100 to 400 ton
100 ton J-6 capable courier/pursuit boat....well J-6 at east part f the way, or if it has way stations.
200 ton escort
200 ton general purpose hauler
200 ton fast yacht
300 ton "Adventure" ships for non-standard business model :D
300 ton special purpose series, scout, prospector, merc gunship
300 ton Hunterkiller and privateer vessel
500 ton J-3 general purpose vessel
500 ton yacht and racing yacht

500 ton freighter in hauler, standard, q-ship, nand merchantman models
500 ton liner
500 ton tow ship

500 to 2000 ton tankers and a mobile fueling station

1000 ton Jump ferry
2000 ton geneal purpose vessel...

i may have missed a few.

They are all vessels a player might use, ride aboard, or encounter and all are working ships, not fleet cruisers and battlewagons...that's for another book :D

Added in sample ships with pregen crews for the GM to use, and a batch of adventure hooks as well :D

Well, some is in 1st edition, just not in High Guard or the Core Rulebook.
True, true... I hope the ones I added are just as useful :D never could find a kitchen or dining area in the older stuff...I mean where is your Ex-Marine Special forces operative turned starship steward going to cook his five course meals between killing Vargr Pirates???

I hope it turns out well! If you don't mind me asking, what did you use for layout?

InDesign, unfortunately, it's my first tie using it....I am sure the material is worth the rather basic layout...and as a balancing feature it is fairly printer friendly since it's basic black and white except for the images.

2300AD has luxury dining. For 2nd edition it was decided rather then try and put in all the individual spaces one might conceivably want, to just use a generic area. One can use luxuries for this in 1st edition for the same effect.

Oh I can understand why that was the way things were set up for lots of reasons. You'd fill up a book with nothing but new spaces, hardware, and luxuries if you wanted to. I just spent a few pages on extras because it's something I like. I really doubt "Better Bulkheads and Freshers" would be particularly useful other than to a few slightly obsessed people ( scoots his copy under the desk)

I imagine with all the various books for 1e and 2300 I was never able to get my grubby mitts on I'd find every toy I ever wanted as a player or GM. I'd basically work for old game books if I didn't need to pay for the lights, and occasional meals. Before the Great Water Leak of 96, and the treachery of the storage locker incident of 03, I had most of the old versions...

I never could afford InDesign, so more power to you! When I learned layout I went with LaTeX, it being free and all :p

Can't wait to see the fruits of your labour. ^_^

I use InDesign. Self taught, well on the job as it happened. I used to do magazine adverts for a bike company amongst other things.
All by books are in ID and the two GKG ones I did.

If you need help and advice, just ask.
