Presumably, you need only the mechanic, and possibly electronics, skills to maintain, operate and repair a solar panel, compared to a nuclear engineer for a fusion reactor.

It seems pointless to install solar panels dirtside, at least the spacecraft type; the atmosphere would degrade performance, in any event, not to mention diurnal rotation.

Maybe Central Supply has something more suitable, but I think that most dirtside settlements will have given up on solar panels, in favour of water based energy.

So, that's a known cost for setting up infrastructure, not counting an electrical grid.

They're all using hydrogen based fuels, refined or not.

If I didn't think that mechanics could operate and repair the chemical power plants, I'd drop them.

With the wide availability of technological level six prefusion colonial cookers, I don't see anyone bothering to construct large renewable energy generators, whether hydro dams, wind farms, or, if the costs are as illustrated, solar plantations.

If you want to set up your own wind mill, or water wheel, that would be up to the owner of the freehold.

Colonist farms would be presented with their own mini fusion variant generator, which would have list costs between thirty seven and a half to seventy kilostarbux, which would be about the same as a combine harvester?

City blocks and suburban neighbourhooods could have their own communal mini fusion generator.

Mono point power plants aren't really that useful for the onboard electrical grid.

You could, in theory, hole up in a locker with one, and as long as you keep watering it, the plant will keep basic systems powered.

This would be more usefully employed in small smallcraft, and to get your home off the grid; of course, how many households would one power point keep lit up?

You're going on a planetary expedition, and you take one along to power the base camp; remember, you don't have to worry about artificial gravity, and possibly, not life support, either.

Maybe, electrified fence.
