1. Advanced combat pistol could use a handgun barrel, which would make effective range ninety metres, long one hundred eighty metres, and extreme three hundred sixty metres.

2. Short would be twenty two and a half metres.

3. If you think of the gauss pistol as a phaser, this would be a less penetrative, louder, but longer ranged horse pistol.

4. If the smallarm is stockless, it suffers a minus two for ranges beyond twenty five metres.

5. Twenty two and a half metres almost covers that.

6. Add a laser pointer that works upto fifty metres, you can sort of see the performance targets for proposed gun ranges.

7. In terms of damage, medium pistol would be zero to fifteen, average seven and a half.

8. Two dice, is two to twelve, average seven

9. Medium pistol default fifty metres on a handgun barrel would be ten metres effective, two and a half metres short.

A. Ideally, you shoot a threat at a distance.

B. Pistols aren't really meant for ideal conditions, but rather when you're up a creek, and that happens to be your paddle.

C. In terms of retaining damage, carbine length barrels seem the minimum to ensure that.

D. What the advanced combat rifle round does, it mitigates a drop in damage, with an increase in range.

E. Downside being, that you'd need a basic technological level ten availability necessary.

F. And, I suspect, when it is, it changes the norm in what's considered adequate for gun pow(d)er.

Rated range is four and a half hundred metres, from the default intermediate rifle calibre two and a half hundred metres.

That would be an increase of eighty percent over default, between, presumably, technological levels six to ten.

At TL9 and higher, weapon designers can use advanced technology to improve a weapon’s overall performance without affecting weight or bulk – effectively wringing more out of the same weight and volume of weapon. Advanced Projectile Weapons cost 25% more than conventional projectile weapons but weigh 10% less. They have a Physical Signature one level lower, and range is 25% further.

As such, technological level nine designed and manufactured intermediate calibre rifles would have an improved range of three and an eighth hundred metres.

We still need a forty four percent improvement from that, to reach the listed range of an advanced combat rifle.

It would be remotely possible that there is such an option, at technological level ten.

Obviously, the three discrepancies that immediately catch the eye are:

1. Range

2. Cost

3. Weight

Of the three, cost is the most easy to subsume under economies of scale, if you assume that you pay a megastarbux for a lot of a thousand advanced combat rifles.

Weight could be mitigated by actual integration of accessories into the manufacture process of the receiver and barrel.

Range seems to possibly violate physics: damage remains the same over a much larger distance, presumably higher muzzle velocity, which would indicate a smaller calibre, as physical signature is one stage less.

Prices are adjustable, but weight is rooted in physics.

And there, it seems, without accounting for electronics or the stated performance, it's clearly a clean third lighter than it should be.

Lightweight: Lightweight weapons are designed to be lighter than usual, but this comes at a cost of being less durable unless better materials are used. Lightweight reduces weight by 20% and either increases cost by 50% or im-poses the Hazardous (-1) trait. This increases the severity of the Hazardous DM if it has been gained elsewhere.

Lightweight, Extreme: A weapon can be pared right down to essentials, but this might make it flimsy. Extreme Lightweight reduces weight by 40% but either impose the Hazardous (-3) Trait or increases cost by 200%.

Compact: A Compact receiver adds 25% to the cost of the weapon and reduces mass by 10%. Base ammunitions capacity is reduced by 25%.

In theory, since the electronics are stated as being integral to the platform, you could use the lightweight option.

But, however you look at it, the price explodes.

Without the electronics, you have to kick off at 1'666.66666667 grammes.

Twenty five hundred grammes at ninety percent is twenty two and half hundred grammes; times sixty percent is 1'350 grammes.

1'350/1'666.66666667 times 3'000 = 2'430 grammes

So, I could more or less keep the weight within the stated canonical three kilogrammes, for the advanced combat rifle.

But, certainly not the stated performance of default effective range of four and a half hundred metres, which is out of left field.

And since we're not going to add a hazardous trait, the final receiver cost is going to double.

Also, stated ammunition cost, forty rounds plus appropriate magazine, retails at fifteen starbux.

These three discrepancies basically means, you have to reverse engineer it from the end result, in order to alter it, since you don't want to kill the goose that shoots these golden bullets at that range.
