Ship Tracker Cards

So I was working on some ship tracker sheets and trying to figure out how to make them reusable. I remembered back when I was playing DnD Minis that we would put the cards into slip cases and use a dry erase marker to keep track of things. So the idea was born.

It took me about 3 hours to get the layout right (because I don't have Photoshop anymore) and I was using Open Office's text program. The images are 3.4 x2.5 in and include all the vital stats plus boxes for Damage and Crew. I used the mini images from Mongoose's website for the background and I think they turned out pretty good. I also made a Critical Hits tracker card.

So far I have these 3 done.

Now the only problem I have is getting them online in case anyone wants them. I could send people the file containing the cards but it might lose the formatting if not opened with Open Office.

I should have all the ships from the Main rulebook done in a day or two. Sadly I don't have the Fleet Book yet so I don't have access to the rest of the ship stats at home.

Nice cards

For distribution I'd recommend a free website host, there are plenty to choose from and they only require minimal internet knowledge. I use http://www.webng.com for mine because it has quite complicated code. If yours are simply downloads then any free host will do - go for the ones without popup ads.

However, before you go to all the trouble of creating them from scratch, if you look under the Resources thread, you will find that a lot of the work has already been done and this could save you a lot of time when producing your tracker cards.

Yes, but from the dimensions his sound like they are designed to fit into card sleeves.

Qapla, as you are using Open Office, just save them as a pdf file. That should maintain the formatting. Arrange it so that there are multiple cards per page to save room and paper when printing.

I'm not sure how to save them as a PDF file. Is there any programs that would allow one to save things as PDFs that are free?

What I would suggest to improve your cards though:

Try making a Ka'Bin'Tak as this is festooned with huge Damage and Crew scores and loads of guns. If you can get this to fit on a card without problems you are then on the right track.

Arrange the Weaponry by Arc and then Range (Rather then how it's done in the fleet book) as this is more useful in play.

primo pdf. (google it) it basically installs as a printer driver and lets you print to a pdf file rather than paper Great little gadget

Of course you are limited in editing it later but I dont know of any better free way of making PDFs

If you are using Open Office, you don't need primopdf, it's a native capability of Open Office. You can't get any more free than this. Depending upon which version you are using it's in a couple different places.

Either it's on option from the File menu or you change the format of it from the Save As window. That's all there is too it. I'm not at work right now, so I don't have access to my Open Office install or I could give you the exact location.

I know that in the newest version there is one click pdf. To the left of the printer icon on your top toolbar there is an icon that looks like the pdf icon. Click it and you are off to exporting it as a pdf.

Got the cards for the EA and Narn done from the Main Rulebook.

I should be able to finish the Centauri and Minbari by tomorrow afternoon then I can start on cards for all the ships for the main 4. Also does anyone know why the EA doesn't have a skirmish level ship in the Rulebook?

The rulebook only has limited ships for all races. Also, some of the ships' stats in the rulebook differ from that in the fleet book!
