Hi there
Would someone be able too help me convert a ships dimensions in metres into the total D-tons its made up of (this only has too be approximate)
the ship is 360 metres long, 225 metres wide art the widest point and 50 metres tall.
thanks if you can help
Well, 360 m x 225 m x 50 m would be about 4 million cubic meters. One
dton is about 14 cubic meters, so a ship of this size would have approxi-
mately 290,000 dtons.
barnest2 - you might want to use the 'average' (median) dimensions of the ship... I.e., if it is mostly only 120 meters wide and 20 meters tall then your ship becomes 62,000 dtons, plus a bit for the 'projections'.
Also, shape makes a big difference. If the ship is an ellipsoid - the volume would be only 52% (PI /6) of rust's estimate above (so ~150 k-dtons).
There are also lots of websites with online calculators for volume - a 10 second search yielded this one with pretty pictures on the links.
I mainly used the Railgun bays from the high gaurd book and then fiddled with the range boundaries to make the ranges more realistic too the show. My stats were still a little inaccurate, but hey, not world ending...
