If nobody as mentioned it, this book is essential reading for anyone interested in Midway (which is most of us). It re-examines the battle and sheds a lot of illumination on the Japanese carrier force. Its about the best 26 bucks you can spend right now.

I agree. It blows away many of the misconceptions surrounding the battle and draws the conclusion that the Japanese were pretty much doomed from the start, as much by their own actions and organisations as the superiority that the US enjoyed. IIRC we had some fairly active discussions about it here some months ago.

I'd also recommend it because I know one of the authors in passing and he's a thoroughly good egg :)

I highly recommend the book. I only finished it a few weeks ago, although I had bought it over a year ago . Right now I'm starting Clash of the Carriers by Barrett Tillman (my first from this author). I've seen Tillman on several documentaries offering his comments. It's about the "Turkey Shoot" and so far looks promising as a good read.
