Shadow scream

So what happens if you have 2 flights acting as interceptors, which become depleted (but fighters not dead)? For example they block the first hit but roll 2's on the second hit. You then roll just one dice for "depleted interceptor"... what happens on a roll of 1? 1 flight killed, or both?

Just 1, if you had rolled 2 1's in the earlier roll then both dead. Same if you had int 1 & 2 flights (int 3) somehow you get int 1 without losing the fighters. It would be the same. Thats the way we play anyway.

I would say 1 fighter dies, but you still get an interceptor rolling at 6, at least until the other fighter dies. But this would make two fighters only as good as a single fighter, once the interceptors are depleted, which is counter-intuitive.

How do interceptors get depleted anyway? It isn't like they have ammo.

I'm not talking about fluff (otherwise you could see it as - the fighter is ordered to get closer into the fire zone to take down incoming shots while risking higher exposure to fire from both the incoming fire and the Capital's outgoing defensive fire).

The fighters in the show that we see act as interceptors put themselves between the incoming energy pulses and the target and shoot the pulses down. They couldn't be in a more risky position.

Interceptors get depleted because the shot aren't actually coming in sequentially, all the fire is happening at roughly the same time. Your overwhelming the interceptors in capacity within a unit of time rather than endurance over the course of a battle.

You only have so many barrels and they can only maneuver around so much at once. Think of it like a martial arts movie. The guy who can catch arrows runs into trouble past two arrows at once due to only having two hands, not that the hands can't be used again in the next scene.

And yes I know, long winded explination of something you already know, but just for completeness sake...=)

Having just rewatched several battle scenes searching for fighters as interceptors, I heard a line about interceptors overheating.

Wasn't that late in the fight? I thought we hear lines about the their starting to get through before that.

Cool though, makes me think the barrels must have fire rate at 'safe' and 'max' with max not being sustainable. Give them a few moments in the cold of space and ready for more. Works out nicely with the mechanic.

i have herd that as well, could of been 'Severed Dreams'

if i recall corectly

Not sure, but just after Corwin reported it one of the forward pylons on B5 was shot off. Might have been the last episode of season 2 when the Secundus and the G'Quan faced off. I'd agree with Ripple's comments on depletion.
