Shadow Raid, Why Bother?

Yeah, wasn't including the explorer because it's not a combat ship, but should have mentioned it.

Locutus: Didn't actually think you hated them. Guess I just have a different take on it, elders should have a wide range of tools in the box to use in the right situation.

For example, while the main vorlon fleet doesn't need stealth, they might have a stealth equipped ship for when they want to look into something unobserved. Might not even have to be a scout, might be used for inserting a lone vorlon onto a planet for manipulation purposes.

Just think that to portray them as the powerful races that they are, limiting them to a single fighting style just doesn't seam right.

How about this for an idea (light bulb above head)

Have vorlon ships with different stat-lines on the same hull. and able to change between them between turns as power is redirected from engines to weapons to defences or whatever.

Eg. heavy cruiser in offensive mode stats as Armageddon
Goes to mobility mode, can now turn 2 at 45, or 1 at 90, but both weapons at half AD
Engages engines at full power, double base speed but lightning cannon off line.
Enhanced regen mode, cut speed and lightning cannon offline, but double self repair.

Obviously those are off the top of my head (or out my a***) to show the concept. Would make em unique anyway!

but where was the Corvan? :?
I don't remember ... but it was in hyperspace. EA ship detect a "croiseur de combat centauri" ("Centauri battlecruiser", in my French dvd version), but I clearly recognise the Corvan shape.

the only instance of the EA facing a Centauri cruiser in hyperspace that I know of was the Vorchan attempting to blow the jump gate in season 5

Certainly there was no Corvan but the Vorchan has the same basic shape

Ok understand the feeling about weakening the Shadows / Vorlons and I really like the idea of varients in the present ships - esp with the Fleet Action minis available to help out!?

however some ideas: Am sure others will have better:
A Vorlon Observation ship - difficult to spot (stealth) and perhaps speedier than the other ships may make sense, and higher level ships have been mentioned in other parts of this forum....... This would tie in with their interferance in other races?say something like:

Vorlon Observer
Speed: 10, Turns: 2/90º, Adaptive Armour, Advanced Jump Point, Flight Computer, Scout, Self-Repair 2, Steath 5+, Hull: 5, Damage 50, Crew: 0 Weapons: none,

Low level Shadows - modified Shadowtech ships of minon races as suggested above and/or

Puppet Masters – the Shadows constantly manipulate younger races to war upon and cull one another giving promises of ultimate power and new technologies.

When using the Shadows fleet, you may spend 1 Fleet Allocation Point of your allowance on “puppet” ships from one of the following “tainted” fleet lists; Centauri, EA fleet -Covert Ops, Drakh or Raiders (edited)
In a campaign, the Shadows may have a maximum of 1 Fleet Allocation Point at Battle level spent on puppet’s ships at any one time.

hmm not sure - they only seemed to turn up after the Shadows departed - maybe they were either too important / not trusted enough?

however happy either way.

They did seem fairly stealthy, but they were there and they were definately shadow puppets. Consider that half the EA Coverts Ops stuff is post Shadow disappearence as well...

Ship that was missed above...

We see something that must be a darkhawk...or maybe a darkbird for the drazi. It's a warbird hull that launches missles...its the same scene where we see the Centauri Vorchan hulls fire their 'missile sphere' things (I assume this is the Demos).

Never saw evidence for multiple types of vorlon transport/destroyer. We only ever see one size of these, in a couple of different colors. Happy to have them be multiple ships, just not really any evidence for that in the show. I do think the ancients should have a variety of hulls though, no reason they would not want to have the right tool for the job like any other race.

I think we have covered the evidence bit - remove an awfull lot of ships if that was the case accross the board - more ships is especially neeed for the ancient races if they are playing in a campaign - three or four ships is not enough...............

Size of Vorlon Destroyers/Transports is difficult to measure, the only one we can scale really is Kosh's Transport which can fit inside B5's docking bay. The Vorlon Destroyer that destroys a Shadow ship when the Vorlons first engage isn't that much smaller than the ship it destroyed. Admittedly we can accept that Shadow ships come in different sizes, meaning that it could have been a small one, but still it would be much bigger than B5's docking bay (although a the Vorlon ship is of course much narrower).

Plus Transports always seem to have their petals open except when in Hyperspace, the Destroyers seem to keep them closed.

A Shadow scout variant was seen in Into the Fire; it fires a purple Shadow beam rather than the purple bolts. AoG made this warship into a strike destroyer, which was a variant of their destroyer, which inturn was the hull that the scout was based on….

yes it is only a small background scene which many people miss......

Maybe it was Sky Serpents rather than missiles. Vorchans don't have interceptors.

As said before - we don't need lots of evidence for ships - its not been needed for all the other ships so why worry now.?

Unless you want to play a game with just those seen on screen ?!

Ah that's not the point, I think we can see that not every ship which appeared in the show is in the game, so when we start trying to add new ships surely we should make sure that all those that appeared in the show are there first before we start making up new ones?

the Demos does (or did in the tourney pack for that reason)

No one said anything about the Vorchan having interceptors...

Plus they were definitely missiles, I believe that was where AoG got the Darkhawk from (even if they did apparently make it a variant of the wrong ship...)
