Shadow (and Vorlon) Refits

Two questions about the Shadows and Volrons Ship Personalities table in the Fleet Book.

First - a 6 result indicates that they gain a +1 bonus to self-repair rolls. What does this mean? As I understand it they never need to make self-repair rolls at all...

Second - a clairification: For the Urgent and Resilient results it indicates that these results may be applied multiple times, but "may not increase the ship's Speed (or Damage) more than 150% of its original score". Was this intended to mean up to a maximum or 150% or a maximum of 250% (which is how I read the sentence). A Young Shadow Ship with a speed 12 (up from base 8) is pretty cool, but speed 20 is tremendous! (Same goes with 75 damage base going to 112 vs. 187). I just want to make sure which is correct.

Thanks,
Humbaba

First - this is a +1 to the self-repair trait. This allows them to heal damage points. It doesn't refer to Damage Control rolls, which Vorlons and Shadows automatically pass every turn. So if you get this refit for example, a Light Cruiser's Self-Repair trait would be 2D6 + 1.

Second - it means the speed can't go beyond 150% of its original score, so for example Ancient Shadow Ship can't go beyond 12. The wording is a bit vague though; it should either say "by more than" or "to more than". In the absence of clarity we assume the obvious ;)

Doh! I don't know how I missed that it was a bonus to self repair and not critical repair rolls - it is quite clear actually!

Maybe a last question on this topic, when you do add 10% (damage for exemple) as a result of xp do you :

add 10 % of the ACTUAL score or
10% of the STARTING score (wich means you can roll this add-on up to 5 times)

To me it reads as a 10% increase to it's current score, but it can't be raised more than 150% of its original score. Even using this method, you still need to get the upgrade 5 times to max the damage out.

No, using that method would give you a speed of 146% after 4 refits. You couldn't apply the 5th because it would take you to 161%.

It says multiple applications of this cannot increase the damage to more than 150% of its original score. To me that means you could get it a 5th time, you only get partial benefit from it though, it doesn't say you can't get the fifth application.

I just realized something else. Does this use normal rounding for fractions or do we round down all fractions? If it's round down all fractions, a ship with a speed less than 10 would never benefit from this refit.

That's why I asked guys ;)

Given that I think like Burger concerning the 5th time and because
I find it easier, I do apply the %age to the starting score which gives
exactly 5 opportunities to apply the upgrade.
All the steps are "pre-calculated" so no one is arguing.
A 8 speed ship will end at 12 after the fifth refit
so first one is 9 (8.8 )
second one is 10 (9.6)
third one is still 10 (10.4)
then 11 and 12

All my players agreed with it but is it a house rule ? (or a correct interpretation? )
