SF home-brewed scenarios

So, the game has been out for a while, we've had discussions on fleets, tactics, weapon systems, rules. Has anyone come up with their own scenarios they like to play with their friends? Kobayashi Maru? Or tried to re-create situations/goals from the series?

We tried doing a base assault once, but still needs tweaking for deployment, whether the base counts for the defense fleet points, or what the goals for victory should be.

I have a two team/multi-player scenario that I have tried once, its getting another run out with refinement next week - I'll post it up here (or via Matt if I cannot attach) once that second game is done and I have an idea of the final setup.

Its a variation on King of the Castle, but allowing for a wider range of mission aims and its setup for teams, but will play with multiple individuals too.

The problem with re-creating actions from the series is that TOS battles were mostly one-one, which ACTA does not handle well. Large fleet battles didn't appear until later series, which SFU does not handle at all. However, you could certainly run a scenario in which opposing fleets battle to rescue a ship sitting in the middle of the table, and make it more challenging for one side by giving the other side double points to spend...

I've had an idea for a scenario based loosely on a TOS episode featuring a certain Federation ship conducting trials of a new battle computer. If there's no objection, I can post it here for people to try out.

As long as the scenario isn't an overt recreation of ST:TOS (or later series/movie) episode, it should be fine.

I'm intriqued by the pre-war, early war ships and if I ever see my Romulans ( By the way - where are the Romulan Fleet boxes in the US?), I want to run an Explore New World scenario with 6 Snipe, 6 Battle Hawks and 1 King Eagle verus 6 FF, 3 OCL, 2 CA and 1 CC.

I rather like all of the 'historical' aspect of these sort of games. Anything going as long as SFB has loads of back stories and different ship data to use. The commanders circle on the ADB site has lots of ship cards to use to mod (or un mod) ships to an older fit. Most of them lose rear phasers/secondary weapons and if you go back further even heavy weapons!!

Romulans are always good for historical digging. They changed fleets and ships loads over time! If you go early then you probably want a WE rather than a KE. If you go really early then prewarp roms need some real reworking! Something like only moving 1" per turn but becoming agile for it (smaller turning circle) and an improvement to the cloak as sensors were probably more rubbish. Maybe multiple cloaked ships as decoys and sensor ghosts or ... plotted movement!

I've been looking for the year in service dates on the ADB site but can't find them. I think I've seen them before but maybe I didn't. Anyone know if they are there or where?

Try this. I make no guarantee that it is balanced or even playable, but hopefully someone will have fun finding out... If anyone wants to alter the scenario it to make it more balanced (or playable), I'd be interested in the alterations!

An empire is conducting a trial of an experimental battle computer. The trial consists of a simulated battle in which one side's ships are equipped with the computer, while the other side is significantly larger to give the computers a thorough work-out. Unfortunately the computers can't distinguish simulation from reality and start firing weapons at full power. At first the opposition fleet can't believe what is happening, then they wait while the computer fleet's crew try to disable the computer, but as damage mounts they have no option but to try to destroy the rogue computer fleet.

Both fleets in this game come from the same empire. The computer fleet gets a +2 initiative bonus, CQ 6, and the new trait "Battle computer" on all ships. The opposition may spend twice as many points as the computer fleet. Both sides can move as normal but the opposition may not fire until it has taken total damage among its ships equal to at least half the starting damage of its largest ship.

The computer fleet wins by surviving - the opposition must be destroyed or have withdrawn. The opposition's victory condition is more complex. Any computer ship which loses the "Battle computer" trait to a critical hit or marine boarding party runs adrift and is out of the game. If more points' worth of computer ships have been disabled in this manner than have been destroyed then the opposition wins. If more points' worth of computer ships have been destroyed than disabled then it's a draw, as the cost in lost ships and lives is too high to count it as a victory.

The opposition fleet has a new special action, "Disable Computer". This isn't actually something performed by their ships but this is the easiest way I can think of to fit it into the game mechanic. Pick a computer ship and have it roll an opposed CQ check against itself. One side of the check is the computer, at CQ 6; the other side is the ship's own crew, at CQ 4. If the crew wins the check then they managed to disable their own ship's computer and the ship runs adrift as if it had lost the computer to a critical as described earlier.

Geoff, I know that data is in Module G3.

Ah ha! Thank you. I don't have G3 but I do have G1. Doesn't contain some of the newer stuff, but all still correct information.

Geoff

Edit - found them!
The Master ship information tables at the bottom of the Federation and Empire page contain 'year available' information for the ships of the major powers.

Hmm, OK I had my home brew scenario in .doc form but thats not an accepted file type for attachments - just trying to work out how to get it up on the forum by emailing Matt...
