SF 2k Romulans

Someone said there are not "Army List" threads, so I'm tossing this one up here.

Been thinking about a 2,000 point fleet for Rommies, something where the majority of the fleet arrives uncloaked, with a few cloaked ships that decloak to deliver some PlasmaR lovin to the face :D

The list so far
2 RoyalHawks
2 FastHawks
1 FireHawk
3 SparrowHawks
1 War Eagle
1 King Eagle

Was thinking the eagles would remain cloaked, but I may swap out the royalhawks for some more points to get another king eagle and some other stuff. 10 ships doesn't seem much for 2,000 points, but then again we don't have many 'cheap' ships to throw around, haha.

Anyone else been dreaming up 2,000 point lists for Romulans?

I would like to bring the Condor along (or a KC9R if the map was restricted movement wise). With 19 dice worth of Plasma, (14 at medium range) it has enough to burn through just about any defense and leave the target with no remaining phasers to fire back. I have popped BC's in one roll with a Condor, but with lesser ships it takes a one-two punch, because using the KE's Plasma R the first attacks Plasma is whittled down to almost nothing by defensive fire. Of course the limited maneuverability is an issue unless you have a higher crew quality and can do a HET.

The lack of small point value ships is somewhat restricting, the racial initiative bonus is great, but without small ships to use as an initiative sink you are forced to play your hand early quite often vs Feds. Such is life though, and I love playing the Romulans. My large Klingon fleet has not been played much since I bought a Romulan squadron pack (and then another after trying them) other than to borrow some hulls to play as Romulans.

My Romulan 200 point fleet (using my spreadsheet fleet tracker)

This gives me a good mix of maneuverability to compensate for the (for all intents and purposes still lumbering) Condor, and ships that like to get in close (Klink hulls) and those that have devastating medium range standoff destructive power (Romulan hulls).

I'd use the KC9R because it has the same ability to maneuver as the least maneuverable ships in that force, the wareagle and kingeagle, while having 60 forward shields, 19 dice of plasma and being an awesome model.

In 2000 points the temptation, especially facing the Federation, is to take two, because they have the same turn as a Fed heavy cruiser and can pretty much vapourise anything in one go.

They also might serve as a counter to the Fed DN's which with lumbering gone, are going to see the table a lot more and possibly in multiples in a 2000 point fleet.

I'm a little uncomfortable with more than 1 K9R simply because the Behemouth is a 'one of'. I know it is silly talking about 'historical' OOB's but it and the Fed NCF are, as far as I can tell, the only ones of their kind in the SFU.

I think with ACTA we have to get into might have beens and what ifs for the simple reason that there will be no other way to expand the system as ADB seem to have mapped out every engagement of the general war down to the names and significant engagements of every Federation ship.

We need to relax a bit. The Romulans would certainly have bought more C9s if they could.

B5:ACTA has the "Unique" trait for certain ships of which only one existed - the Earth Alliance's Excalibur, for example. Only one of this ship can be on the table in any game, and in a campaign you also only get one - if it is destroyed, you can't buy another. Might this be worth putting into ACTA:SF for such ships? Do other SFU games have any similar restriction, or can you field multiple KC9R's even though only one existed "historically"?

Its easy to go on a point-per-plasma perspective, but that takes some fun out of it. But for those who just wana squeeze the most plasma per point, the top 5 ships are.

#1 King Eagle
#2 Condor
#3 KRC
#4 Snipe
#5 KC9R

So we have some good ships that provide excellent plasma at many different ship sizes and point values.

Granted each ships total plasma value varies so you might be tempted to take two dreadnoughts, but in 2,000 points you can start using squadrons of ships, so you could have 3 King eagles in a squad, decloaking at the same time, firing 33 AD of hot plasma death at maybe.. 2 targets simultaneously.

So the total plasma of a single ship is less important than the total plasma you could pump out of a squad of ships, of course, if you think of phasers as being important, then the top 5 ships in the most phaser 1 per point are.

#1 FastHawk
#2 KC9R
#3 BattleEagle
#4 FireHawk
#5 SkyHawk

So only 1 ship is in the top 5 of both plasma and phaser, but it has to split off some of its phaser fire. This stuff is important in-between reloads and when you get into killzone, also somewhat important for defense against drones, that and tractors.

I don't know whether phasers or plasma will be more important from my experience so far. But I still think there can be reason to take any ship you may want to take.
