Just to let you all know, a preview of Scout is now ready for download;

Medical facilities IMTU will be available at ports of class A, B and C. I prefer to have such things to be more widespread.

And I'd have made that jump-4 ship a 200-tonner.

Just my 0.02 Cr.

The beauty of Traveller is that, in YTU, you can do all of that!

Most scout bases will have some degree of medical aid, but at C and below it will be more rudimentary (which may mean someone with a half empty med-kit).

Yeah, C class spaceports are listed as "Routine", thats supposed to mean average, right? Its the D Class "Poor" spaceports I could see not having med facilities.

And then I'd have to design the ship myself...

:P  Hey, I got a submission idea for S&P!

Isn't a C port supposed to be Routine? So that would mean that it would have most things that any other installation would have - repair facilities, fuel, hotels, theaters and med facilities, among others. For me, these are the things that a civilized place would have, even if it's a small town level. So a C port may not have schools (well, maybe a university, or at least its engineering department), but it would have at least a clinic - and in a vacuum world or a belt world, it might need to!

Much would depend on local facilities present, I guess. If there's a good hospital nearby, it would make economic sense to make use of that rather than invest money in equipment and staff that are rarely used.

And, as with any roleplaying book, you determine what's present at your Scout base. You might, as you say, have a D class base that, because its in a mining region, have an equipped clinic (but perhaps at the expense of something else). In essence, develop what you need for your campaign.

Its a matter of perception. I don't see a C class port as a backwater, just as a port with no shipyards.

I'm not positive (not owning the book yet obviously) but it looked to me like the section about medical facilities is referring to class C scout bases not class C starports.

Can someone official confirm or deny?

What other ships will be in there? In previous editions we've had Fleet Couriers, X-Boat tenders, Donosevs, and large Scout Cruisers - will something similar be in here too?

Or is that going to make it too OTU-specific (speaking of which, exactly how generic is this book going to be?)

I would agree, looks like it's base type not starport type.

Having read through the preview a couple of times, I think you are right. Scout Bases are apparently classified in the same way that Starports are classified.

SO, you could have a Class D Scout base next to a Class A starport. Or vice-versa. We will have to see.

The preview definitely suggests many interesting things are in store for the Scout career, I look forward to seeing how this can build upon my own universe. I know I might be reassessing Beltstrike's value to me.
