Yes.

Fighters ignore stealth on a capital ship if they are within 1", however that doesn't apply the other way around. Capital ship still has to pass a stealth check to shoot a fighter no matter how close it is.

I think the question here was aimed specifically at the 'anti fighter' trait in 2nd Ed, which I believe WILL be affected by stealth (at leat it better be or Nials just became utterly naff)

not effected by stealth, cant expect fighters to be that close and ignore stealth and not work the other way for specific AF defenses.

Ok so tell me then what the hell is the point of fighters even HAVING stealth then? Dogfights ignore it, AF ignores it, Emines ingnore it. The only time stealth would NOT be ignored is when shooting at them with normal weaponry, which would strike me as a massive waste of firepower if you have AF guns....

Secondly, just because fightes at that range can hit a great big ship doesnt mean the ship can target a tiny little buzzy thing flying round it. Im sorry but my hopes for 2nd Ed are fading rapidly the more I hear about various rule changes. Some of whats coming I really like the look of but this just strikes me as another very silly idea thats going to make previously good attack fighters like Nials and Rutarians useless and just die instantly to anti fighter weaponry....

thats a good point, and one of the reasons people brought up the rutarian not being a free swap is it has stealth.
some ships still do have normal AF guns though so there is some point to stealth.

Or dodge for that matter- Anti-fighter, emines and dogfight all ignore dodge? :D

If a ship with only 1 dice of anti-fighter is attacked by 2 Nials, it can only shoot at one Nial. Now if the second Nial (or both if the AF missed) is in an arc where there are no other targets, the ship is going to fire its normal guns at the fighters. The fighters are protected by both stealth and dodge.

Yeah, hence the smiley.

Stealth is an additional form of defence against main guns. It is as useful for fighters as for Tigaras.

As someone who has had his Vorlon fighters shot down by a victory's lasers I can say I would love to have had stealth.

Stealth is useful on the Rutarians before the +1 for close range, gave them some staying power not that i could hit with that damn ion bolt ever.
Stealth to me neans that i will roll one under it. Tempted to smash all my Sharlins so no one can use them against me. Had a bad day with stealth today  . One use i found for the rutarians was for reducing the stealth on Minbari, they didn't get vaporised like Sentri's & Raziks.
