RuneQuest world?

Hi!
I just bought RuneQuest main rulebook and wait impatiently for it's arrival. Well I must say it is a very special game for me, as it was old RQ that introduced me to RPG. Actually it was hand written notes from a copy, made during downtime of our GM's character, but the provided a mny wonderfull hours of open gaming (I can call it sandbox).

But it wasn't memories to write this post. When we played those ancient campaign, we have used a map of First Gulf War with names read from right to left, so Iraq became Quari, Iran became Nari and so on. But, I'd like to know more about world of RuneQuest. I'd like to ask for directions to websites, describing "generic" world. I'm aware of Glorantha existence,a s I have played in "King of the Dragon Pass" (actually I have it on my laptop right now).

Best regards

Hi Paladyn,

There's never been a 'generic' RQ world. Avalon Hill's edition of RQ included Mythic Europe and two boxed sets, Vikings and Land of Ninja, expanded this, but it was never really a truly described world.

There have been plenty of homebrew settings of course, and the current edition of RQ supports Glorantha, Lankhmar, the worlds of Michael Moorcock, Deus Vult (set around the time of the Crusades) and quasi-historical settings too.

Other than that, I'm not sure where I can direct you!

Hi there Paladin!

The closest RuneQuest has to an "official" world is Glorantha.

Try out The Glorantha Reference Library. Though it is not a Mongoose-supported site  it does have tons of stuff that you might find of use. Also check out the unofficial sites by Pete Maranci, Nick Brooke, and Simon Phipp. Google their names with "Runequest" in the search terms and you'll get 'em. Maps, cults, cultures, adventures, NPCs, and plenty more; mostly for previous editions of the game, but oh-so-easily convertible...

There was "Questworld" too - but beyond the original Chaosium Boxed set and a couple of White Dwarf articles I'm not sure much was ever produced for it.

(The Idea was that "Glorantha" was Chaosiums sample of a "Closed world" Campaign and "Questworld" was an "Open World" campaign - I think one of the ideas was that Chaosium and the main licensees (Games Workshop and (probably) Judges Guild - not sure who else) would each have a continent where they could place any scenarios etc)

Prior to Questworld, some (if not all) Judges Guild RQ material was labelled as "RQ Gateway", but I don't think anything was ever published to link these adventures together.

Well, this isn't a generic world but it is the setting I use in my Runequest II games (actually, in all my RQ games going back to the Avalon Hill edition):

The above is a link to the free mini-gazetteer, which is system neutral. Unfortunately the published core book is written for use with D&D, as I have not yet established an economical way to release an edition suitable for use with BRP and/or RQII (although I haven't inquired about licsensing costs yet, either).

Anyway, shameless plug off :P[/url]
