RuneQuest Monsters II

The description reads:

Following on from the first collection of creatures for the RuneQuest game, Monsters II provides Games Masters and Players alike a new host to populate their Gloranthan campaigns.

The world of Glorantha is amply serviced, with many creatures making their first appearance in this new edition of RuneQuest. From creatures twisted by vile chaos, such as unusual varieties of broo and snakes, through to the great riding beasts of the Praxian plains and Mostali constructs there are many new foes to keep adventurers on their toes.

It will require a stout heart, strong swordarm and incredible cunning to be able to face these beasts and survive! Do you have what it takes?

Is this specifically a Gloranthan book as the description makes it seem, or a mixed Gloranthan/Core(i.e. generic) book (as the brown cover implies)?

Originally the book was going to be about half-n-half, but I apparently outdid page expectations by a great deal and we had to set some stuff aside for a future volume. So, Nick decided that many (if not most) of the Gloranthan goodies I had put into the manuscript should be the meat of Monsters II. Monsters III will likely be the guys that didn't make it into this one, plus some more to fill in the corners.

So, to answer your question, it is a Core book for generic Runequest; but it has A LOT of Gloranthan friends and fiends. Just like how Gorp and Chon Chon made it into Monsters I, yet they remain originally based in Glorantha.

Does that answer for ya, mate?

Chonchon is based on actual Mapuche mythology. Its Runequest incarnation might be 100% faithful the original stories, but it is influenced by actual folklore. Same with scorpion men, which have been stated even in the RQ books to be original monsters of Glorantha.

can not wait to get my hands on both volume 2 and 3(Hint) . Might add I never worried about a monster origins having run Call of Cthullu and Elric monsters in Glorantha. As long as its an interesting foe for my players is what matters. where the Broo got those Dharzi hunting dogs is for my players to figure out.

No one is questioning that. So are orcs, goblins, and 90% of everything else roleplaying games have used. What I am saying is that these monsters are thought of in the roleplaying game industry as Gloranthan, but we are putting them out there for everyone to use with our RuneQuest rules.

Rurik, since you asked the question, did my answer make sense to you, mate?

Yes it did, thanks.

I guess time will tell "how Gloranthan" but sounds like half or more.

I was for some reason - probably threads here, under the impression it was a mix much like the first Monsters but the blurb I quoted from the website talked only about Glorantha, so I was confused. Not that confused ins't pretty much a natural state for me anyway.

Not until I know which ones made it into the final version. With my manuscript becoming Monsters II and the groundwork for Monsters III, I'm not rightly sure what stayed and what went.

When I do, I will try to remember to resurrect this thread and letcha know.

Fair?

I think it is pretty cool that the guy putting this book together is keeping us in the loop every step of the way.
