Runequest Deluxe??

Tal

Mongoose
Can someone tell me what this is? Obvoiusly it a rulebook but what can I expect(the book on the release schedule not the old Avalon Hill RQ book)?

That'd be awesome. One big book for the GM, and the small ones but Monsters on the players' side for reference... works for me. :)

If it a compilation of the core three books, I hope that they intergrate it. Meaning all the character creation rules together, Magic rules together, etc.

RQ III had a Deluxe version, and a Standard version. So, I am guessing it will be a compolement of the Corebook, Companion, and Legendary books.

But It may be the core book and the GM book combined.

I doubt it, Games Master's Handbook is coming almost a month after the Deluxe version. Also the page count doesn't really add up: 120 pages (Main rulebook) + 104 (Games Master's Handbook) < 352. Main rulebook + Companion + Monsters add up to 376 pages, which could be possible. Also Main rulebook + Companion + Legendary Heroes/Arms & Equipment = 312 sounds some what feasible if they plan to include things like the runic powers PDF, fumble charts and what not.

I am thinking more on the lines of the core book, Companion, Monsters, and Legendary heroes.

But we will see. If it is a reprint of these books, I will not get it, unless do some MAJOR alterations.

This is the most likely. After they remove the monsters pages from the core rulebook (which will be superfluous with the inclusion of the Monsters book) and shave off the odd page by editing sections together e.g. the professions pages, that should bring it down to the 352 pages.

I talked to one of the Mongoose guys at their Origins booth and he said it was the main books printed in one book with corrections and updates.

I take it that this means the Player's Update but does the Runic Powers PDF count as an update?

Of course, what Mongoose could do is use the layout and page count of the Chaosium RQ2 (except maybe with the 6 pages of character sheets substituted with some brief GoG-style cult details): Everything you need in just 120 pages.

And then we'd be able to see clearly exactly how much better MRQ is... ;-)

Or, with 360-ish pages, will they create something 3 times as good?

I don't know. In retrospect I should have asked some follow-up questions. :-(

Personally I would prefer RQ Deluxe to be composed of the Main book, the Companion and Legendary Heroes but I'm pretty sure it is going to be the Main book, the Companion and Monsters. After all, these three are advertised as 'Core Products' on RQ's page.

At the very least I would like to have the combat rules settled once and for all (I haven't tried the latest iteration so it might be done already) and I would like to see a NICE character sheet. I would even settle for a not too crappy one

Well the updated product page confirms it as the 3 "core books" (the main book, campanion and monsters), but doesn't mention updates(yet).

I won't be buying it sadly. I've shown faith and bought all the MRQ stuff already. I couldn't possibly justify spending another £30-£40 on a book containg stuff I already have. that's insane.
I suppose many of you will however and I'll expect to see core MRQ books flooding ebay and going for a song.

In my mind, it's Mongoose responding to one of the complaints that a lot of people have had. Many people thought that the three core books being spread out in small $25 versions was bad. Now, those critics will have the option of buying one $40 book. I think it makes the Runequest line more competitive.

I know many people potentially interested in RuneQuest will see this as a very good thing and will buy it when they wouldn't the three thin books. This is targeted at them, I wager.

Personally, I'll be getting one to have it on my side of the screen while the core rulebook and companion will be on the players' side. I'm pleased with this.

Oh I totally agree. I'm exactly the kind of customer who would've bought the deluxe and I can definately see the attraction (after paying for 'the grand pendragon campaign' & 'delta green eyes only' I'll pay top money for stuff I want) but I can't justify it after buying those books initially.
IF only I hadn't bought the books as soon as they were out! Maybe if I could get ok cash for the MRQ core books on ebay to offset the price I MAY still do it.
I have to be honest, I'm impressed with mongoose. They really are responding to customers. They could've easily waited to release the errata for the rules in another edition but they released a pdf now...and to a decent enough standard that it doesn't look crap when you put it in your book. They're approaching Chaosium as my fave games company.

Well, I'm one casual RQ player that would be interested in a deluxe edition. But will it include the (necessary) rules updates?
