Actually, seriously for a second, I'd dearly love a little button or a light next to people's names on forums that indicated gender. That way I'd stop saying "Hey, guy" to girls all the time, and having people think Aaron is a girl's name. It was Elvis's middle name, people! Come on!

Lying about your true self, or at least hiding the real info, is part of the fun on these forums, and one of the reasons why the Internet is so exciting. My nickname sometimes lead to some confusion, too. And you had to see what happened back in the 90's on the Glorantha Digest, when Shannon Appelcline administered the Glorantha Digest: we were unsure about the moderator's sex, even though we did not use nicknames!

I also suspect some nicks here hide people I know from other areas. SimonH and soltakss I know rather well though not in real life, but the others?

Really though, before I had no interest in RoC (not that interested in non-Gloranthan or 'introductory' scenarios, which it is billed as), but now I might pick up the PDF just to see what I think about it.

From my point of view, it seems to be OK scenario, especially for beginner GM's.

When I read through it I got that very same impression. It is a scenario directly made for RPG newbies. During the course of the tournament you get to make all the different skill tests that are there and then there is combat. In my humble oppinion it's a guide through the new rules covered up in a medium level adventure. After playing through it (and you're right, shouldn't take too much time to do so) the basic rules of MRQ should have become second nature to players and GMs alike.
By all the fair critisism RoC recieves, one has to admit that there easily can be (more then) a little fun playing through the tournament. :!:
But it nevertheless seems to be called an introductionary scenario for a very good reason :lol:

Makes me wonder why it wasn't included in the Core Rules, if it's designed to show HOW the system works, AND introduce the game to a new audience. Very curious, that strategy...

It's a generic RuneQuest release for beginner GMs to come to grips with things. It has nothing to do with Glorantha. At the risk of sounding like a cock, the sooner you grasp that not everything for RQ is about Glorantha any more, the less bitter you'll be about these kinds of things.

I agree completely with your comment about not everything being about Glorantha, but I also feel that it is a bit rubbish. It is always a good idea to make the first Scenario released for a system that little bit special, to spark people's interest.

If you compare it for (completely non-RQ) example with "The Empire Within" which if you take the Empire background chapters out, weighs in at about the same page count and was eminently playable by "newbies" there is not contest. For my twopenn'th a brief (stand alone) scenario with a few decent unanswered questions hanging around and a promise of more is a much better approach.

BTW much as I have enjoyed reading 2nd Age Glorantha and am an old Die-Hard RQ/Glorantha fan-boy, I am increasingly of the opinion that I will run non-Gloranthan MRQ, just to see where the system takes it. (Okay I'll probably half-inch the odd Cult or Race, but that's not stealing it's "homage" :-D )

To be fair I did quite enjoy "Raven in the Roost", I just thought it fair to say that, having slated the other one. To be honest, Raven would have been a good addition to the Core Rules.

Raven in the Roost is an okay internet scenario. I would not have liked to pay for it though, as I expect more from scenarios I pay for. But I'll put the Rune of Chaos disappointment behind me. I'm quite looking forward to Player's Guide to Glorantha and new scenarios, hopefully with some more spice next time.

I agree completely with your comment about not everything being about Glorantha, but I also feel that it is a bit rubbish.

I'm cool with people saying something sucks. That's our right as human beings with opinions, keyboards, car keys and...I don't know, tractors, maybe. Whatever.

I just wanted to point out that some of the people who write this stuff do actually come here. On one hand, they put this stuff out and expect a certain degree of praise, disgust and criticism to reach back from the electronic aether. As a writer, you can't publish something and then go 'wah-wah' when somebody thinks you're a hack.

But at the same time, it's not cool to go into someone's workplace and say that dog vomit does a better job than them. I mean, it's pretty funny, but polite it ain't.

Still, all is well. I look forward to the moment I first stumble across some of the Magic of Glorantha or Lankhmar talk on here.
