Rune Magic List

I just finished creating a list of rune magic spells including all the ones from the Spellbook. The list is in Excel and includes the required runes for each spell. So, the list can be sorted by runes required and you can work out what spells you could cast with your random array of runes.

In a previous thread we discussed how it was probably OK for such a list to be made public, despite the Spell book being not open-source.

If this is so - shall I send this to someone who can slap it on the wiki?

I actually created the list for use in an Excel character generator, so I also entered in loads of other data from the Spellbook (magnitude, area, resistance etc etc) but I figure that really is going to be going beyond what is a reasonable thing to put on-line.

Just noticed a couple of typos in the Spellbook by the way. The spells Jump, Skulking and Momentum are listed as using the "Mobility" rune. I presume this should read "Motion"

And a couple of typos in the SRD. The spells Slow and Speeddart have "Movement" rune requirement. Again I presume this should be "Motion"

Also Sink in the Spellbook uses Movement rather than Motion

I'd ask the Mongoose for a suggestion. If they greenlight posting it on the Wiki, then its ok.

I wouldn't worry about posting these lists, I've already posted a similar one from CoG 1 and they didn't raise any objections to that. Of course what you can't do is start posting detailed descriptions of each spell, but as you're not doing that I'd say you're ok to go ahead.

You can't copyright a list of words. What you are doing is called Journalism or academic research both of which are protected. They could try suing you or threaten you with solicitors letters but they will lose. There's just been a recent case (in British law) where a judge said you couldn't copyright even made-up words. Be careful with trademarked names, though!

The obove is my informed opinion and I am not a solicitor! Edited: Oh and major characters, be careful publishing stuff about Gandalf, Elric or even Argrath.

The moment this thing is available, someone please let me know. I was about to compile one for my own personal use when I stumbled across your thread....

The lists you are looking for is on Mr. Qwiki here:

http://mrqwiki.com/wiki/index.php/Spell_Lists

The page has a list of spells of all magic types and includes Gloranthan books.

The Rune Magic Sortable spreadsheet is also linked to directly from that page.

Also, the Spellbook has an indeof all spells included in all core (brown cover) book and what book (and page I think) they are in.
