Rogue Trooper

Rogue was an exellent background for a campaign. Of course it would need a slight adjustment as in having a few GI's surviving the initial attack. Foundery do some Rogue trooper figures and the GI's look pretty identical.
I was thinking of a treaked version of Judge Dredd with a few modified feats and some tanks, artillery included. Each player ,may need to roleplay the chips in the helmets, guns and backpacks as well as the main character each has.

Give it some thought.
:)

I think this has been discussed elsewhere, too but I thought to resurrect this thread :)

Initially I thought that this would be a stillborn idea because there were only a single surviving G.I. on Nu-Earth. Now that I have made some more research it seems that there are few more series with a G.I. in it. There is this Tor Cyan and 86ers. Both of those show quite a vast universe where you don't have to be a G.I. to survive without an NBC-suit.

I think that these series has given a promise that it is indeed a viable option to have a Rogue Trooper setting for Traveller or even (SciFi)MRQ.

Given that the battle between the Norts and Southers has been raging across different planets and that various incarnations of the GI's (Rogue, Friday, Tor Cyan, Venus, Rafe) have been used in these battles there is a lot going for it, especially when you take into account the aliens encountered in the setting such as those in the Kasbah could be opened up for player character opportunities, involving lots of combat, conspiracies, etc

Yes, excatly! The RT setting is now much more wide than it was when I was first reading the series. But still, who would not want to play a GI even with this social stigma? :P

Most players probably would play gi's or dolls.

However there are players that are always looking for the unusual character that will set them apart from the rest of the group.

Whether it is an alien, human or even an ai robot like robspierre <sp?> at fort neuro!

From the villains side my favourite was Major Magnum!

True, but only after the stories set outside the NuEarth I have really seen the viability of the Rogue Trooper setting.

I really might have to go and dig out my old RT stories because I don't remember that Robspierre or Major Magnum.

Robspierre was in the Fort Neuro stroy Arc if i recall correctly, Major Magnum was a short story but not sure when it occurred. Going to have to go in attic and get those old progs down to look at and use as basis for draft rules i think.

Just thinking about what chapters / books could be produced -

Southers Military Guide
Norts Military Guide
Milli Com
nu earth campaign
Black Ops scenarios and plot hooks
GI's & Dolls Handbook
Bazaar - guide to aliens and their tech
navpoints - small geographic guides to featured locales such as Fort Neuro and Quartz Zone massacre.
Black Market - guide to obtaining and marketing scavenged kit whether as incidentals or as professionals

Sounds good. But I would still open up the setting to space even in the core book as it makes it more accessible to those who don't want to play in active military zones :)

Agreed, opening up the space travel options does broaden it's scope, not just in terms of military conflicts but exploring forgotten battle zones, lost research bases, alternate genetic weapons or alternate versions of GI long forgotten or currently in the works, Norts or Southers?

Space is a huge place :) Even a team of rogue GIs could be "lost" in there and do some odd jobs instead of being in the service.

The more I think about this the more viable it feels.

Hi Snowdog you mean effectively going 'rogue' awol, being hunted by Southers & Norts ?

Exploring as they run further from their creators and the battlefronts?

I'd kill for a Rogue Trooper RPG myself. If anything just to have actual books instead of having to keep using my own notes because as I get older my own handwriting is getting harder to read, much less write.

Plus, that's just one step removed from Durham Red then. :D

While I would really much like to see Rogue Trooper RPG (see my posts) I still have to ask how this is related to Durham Red? I mean, isn't she more related to Strontium Dog setting than to Rogue Trooper?

I have understood that she is the contemporary of Johny Alpha but at some time got freezed and woke up in a distant future (I have read that story by Abbnet).
