Robots - I must be doing something wrong ...

I have vauge memories of asking the same questions about the playtest version.
I wonder if those comments ever even made it to Mongoose?
Sigh.

So did I (although they aren't vauge) I did ask about this in the comments I sent back.

Considering how cheap gems are, you could probably make the body out of gems and be cheaper.

Owen.

Hey, my keyboard started woking again

I just compared Mongoose's supplement with the German robot
supplement for Mongoose Traveller (which is an original work, not
a translation of Mongoose's supplement). Using that German sup-
plement, robots become a lot less expensive, I think the costs are
on average about half of those of Mongoose's supplement, or even
less than that.

Unfortunately the two design systems are not really compatible, for
example the German supplement bases the price of the chassis on
the robot's Strength, Dexterity, Hull and Structure, which have se-
parate point costs depending on the technology level. For example,
a Strength point costs 441 Credits at TL 10 and 126 Credits at TL 15.

There are no separate costs for the installation of devices, and their
prices are almost identical to the prices of normal equipment. For
example, a TL 8 communicator costs 225 Credits "flat", without any
costs for installation and any cost increase because it is built into a
robot.

There are no slots, but each device added also adds mass, which de-
termines the price of the drive system and the power system. For ex-
ample, Legs require 1 % of the robot's mass per km/h of its intended
speed and cost 100 Credits per kilogram.

I gave up trying to create anything useful with the latest robot sourcebook. Why is it so difficult to make a robot creation sytem for Traveller? I swear someone at Mongoose hates robots.

Thank goodness I still own Book 8: Robots. Mongoose has rights to the character, ship and world design systems, why not Book 8? Fix the minor problems and enhance it like thay did the other generators.

I guess that doesn't bode well for the comments on the Powered Armor rules, either.

Wow! Wish that book was in English.

They do listen, I've had a number of things I've mentioned in various products get correct (though not all...).

FWIW, I think limbs are intended to take up space and power, hence the slot usage. I use units to get more space honestly. I'm considering a house rule for limbs where they would provide half the slots they take up for limb-mounted equipment only.

Actually this works to recreate the designs in the book. :D
