Robotic Prison Guards (Or How To Oppress Your Players For Fun)

Paradise on Earth, baby ;)

But yeah, even with exile colonies there's wide variation.

Australia very quickly became a proper colony with a focus on free settlement *supplemented* by the labour of serving convicts. A very critical point was that most were on seven year terms and earning a ticket of leave for good behaviour to move to probabtionary release was usual.

A setup where the cons are just dumped on a planet and left to fend for themselves is a whole other matter.
so Christopher Stasheff would have us believe!!

Updated to make them scarier. ;) Now size 6 so they are twice the size of the prisoners to help intimidate them. Renamed Spiderbot Prison Guard as it has eight legs and is made to scurry across the ceiling (raised for the purpose) to stay out of reach of the prisoners while still being able to strike. Four legs are heavily beefed up for combat while four are made to hold it in place with gecko grippers. It's legs are its weapons if needed.

Personally, in addition to the club, I'd also include an integral stunner (at the least) as a heavier response option. If it's integral to the bot, it's not going to be readily usable by the inmates (they'd have to at least disable a bot to get the stunner first, and if the stunner is powered off of the bot's internal power, it's not going to be particularly portable in a working state). Heavier weapons... eh, that starts getting iffy.

And make it an electric style stunner so that it can be used against rogue bots.

Or turned against the guards. Oh noes! No one saw that one coming in the first act!;)

That's why I specified "integral" for the stunner. (Perhaps taser... shockstick, maybe?) Have the weapon built in, and running off of the bot's power supply, so that if you remove the weapon, you have to jury-rig a replacement power supply. Sure, a MacGyver-type could do it, but most people aren't going to find it easy.
