Research Question

I have a research question. Does anyone have anything resembling a Zhodani vocabulary?

And I hope that nobody says, in truthfulness, "Only Don McKinney," because I would be very very sad, mayherestinpeace.

Good enough. Thanks for this reply and the PMs pointing both to the Mongoose Alien Module and to GDW 258, which both contain useful Zhodani word generators.

As long as I am not stepping on toes, I'll carry on.

Figured you had already checked the Mongoose one.

There's a word generator in the Classic Traveller one.

Yeah, and the glossary helped too.

I love how I could call one of the most popular trid entertainment series in the Consulate Vlezhdzar. "Star Trek."

There is also a Word Generator program that is on-line. It has all the languages from the original Alien Modules (don't think they have changed).

You can do individual words or sentences...

It is VERY useful.

Morning PDT,

GURPS Traveller also has word generators for the major sophonts and I think for some the sophonts they did write-ups on.

I note that there are definitely words, but is there no grammar?

If you could get your hands on the HIWG cd there was some work on that, the other place was on the TML.

If you can find a working mean searchable index of the TML I would start with Kenji Schwartz....

Sorry I can't be more direct than that...

Hello again alex_greene,

In CT Alien Module 3 Vargr the adventure Gvurrdon's Story pp. 21-26 and 42-43 has a document, pp. 24-25, written in a Vargr language, p. 26 has Arrghoun Grammar rules for the document, and the translation on pp. 42-43.

I do not recall any of the other CT Alien Modules providing the same type of coverage to languages.

Hello Rikki Tikki Traveller and alex_greene,

The CT Alien module did talk a bit about Grammar, but not that much.

I think you are basically free do what you want.

My recollection that the Vargr CT Alien Module was only one to go into more detail is correct.

In 2013 I got a hold of a document from somewhere that had Vilani Vocabulary that I put in to a spreadsheet, unfortunately I failed to note on the spreadsheet where I got the document. I can find the spreadsheet but I have not found the original document.

On the TML site one of the members asked if the archives had any topics about language for someone on another site. Hopefully, the person has or will be in contact with you with the information gathered. Unfortunately web gremlins are blocking my attempts to check out the material.

Update:

One of my incomplete projects is an comparison between the Vargr language in the document with the language rules in the module. The area I completed was the comparison of the tables with the document, the part I have not completed is matching the translated document with the Vargr language.
