Repeat of ships in High Guard

Just want to post a note about the fact that the ships from the basic book appear in HG. I don't really feel this is necessary and would love to see new ships & deck plans instead even if they are just updated v1 designs. Thanks.

It's not a complete repeat as more information on the ship specifications are included with the High Guard version. But there are a lot of new ships appearing as well (not all are in yet).

Andrew, for those of us who are a little slow, what do you mean they are not repeats? Can you give an example of what you mean they have more? More what?

Here's what the section header says:

The ships presented in this chapter are the same as those featured in the Traveller Core Rulebook. However, here you have the full benefit of the High Guard ship construction system, along with the necessary data
sheets that not only show you exactly how all the common spacecraft were constructed, but also provide you with the ability to dive in and made your own changes and modifications. This will allow you to create
countless variations for specialised missions, filling space with what should indeed be common spacecraft.

So you have the same low-res-ish 3D images along with deckplans and some alternate graphics of the ships. Nothing to write home about. There's some new ones in there (Express Boat, Deployment Shuttle, some more of the designs you have seen in the past).

Then it starts getting into warships. A 50k armored cruiser, a DE, an escort, and a 200ton SDB. There are some errors on the ship descriptions (like the SDB has 33 tons of mystery armor because there's no specs for it), and the DE has a descriptionless Thrust-9 drive, too.

Really the core book ship info belonged in the core book. They could have removed the 3D imagery and put these in there place.

If you were hoping for new designs, you get a couple, not sure if the 50k cruiser has appeared before or not. It's CA (or Armored Cruiser, but also known as a Heavy Cruiser)

They are the same ships just include some additional information over what the Core Rulebook shows. The cost of the individual components is lacking in the Core Rulebook version.

Just meaning that not everything is a complete repeat.

Ah, Got it, more detailed info.

Thank You

You are going to get a _lot_ of new designs in High Guard (well, new for this edition - just about every classic ship you can think of - even the likes of the Annic Nova - will be in here). We just left this bit until last as rules tweaks obviously have an effect on them!

 great news! :D

Question: will high guard feature both isometric and classic/from above deckplans, just like the main rulebook?

The new isometric ones are pretty to look at and I enjoy them, but the classic 2d ones can be easier to work with sometimes

Unless they are smaller designs, the isometric view would be pointless. It's already hard to read because it's in such low resolution. Two-D deckplans would be much better. Though if they are like the last High Guard, where you had large ships taking up literal PAGES of deckplans, that's just a waste of paper in my opinion. They aren't really usable and they pale in comparison to the details listed in the AZL / Arrival Vengeance deckplans. Those are interesting, but fully realized deck plans top out their usefulness when they get over 2-3k tons, for the most part.

I don't know about others, but spending some time developing the backstory behind some of the designs would be a better use of page count. Take a page out of GK or Moon Toad and tell us about the ship and why it's cool and make us want to save our credits to buy one, or load our gauss pistols and steal one!

The deck plans for larger ships are being done differently.

The classic 2D deck plans will be free to download - best of both worlds!
