Regeneration

I was just rereading the psionic rules in TMB and I noticed under Regeneration that it stated that it can't be used to affect aging.

That doesn't make sense to me. You could use regeneration to fix any medical problems. Even if you don't have any medical problems regeneration could be used to make the organs like new. This would not make some one live forever but would expand the human lifespan a significant number of years.

If you would have a poor heart or build up of plaque in the arteries, regeneration would strengthen the heart and remove the plaque from the arteries. This would eliminate any chance of hypertension or heart attacks. This is only an example.

Just some thoughts.

It's because, for some reason, "everyone gets old and dies" is the Hard Rule of Trav, much like "Fighters exist as meat shields for the wizard" is the Hard Rule of D&D 3x and "Thou Shalt Not Time Travel" is the Hard Rule of Exalted.

It's patently absurd, feel free to handwave it.

A Rejuvenation power was mooted once, as part of the Droyne Alien book - this being the power that Grandfather (purportedly the progenitor of the Ancients) developed in order to live forever.

But that could also be mythical, and even so only applicable to Droyne physiology. Human mental development might take Homo sapiens adeptus down a different evolutionary path.

if all it does is rebuild body parts based on the cell's DNA, would it eliminate the effects of an unhealthy lifestyle? ( it repairs the fat that exists? or does it make the user trim and svelte... ) Can it take the place of body-building and exercise?

What about any damaged DNA?
Does it cure cancer?, or 'repair' the tumor....
Can it cure genetic defects?

or is it the equivalent of allowing a rusted out old Edsel to morph into a brand new luxury BMW

I would not let it change the basic nature of the person, but it should be able to repair any permanent damage to the body.

It should be able to erase RAD exposure etc. But, since it cannot increase stats above what is rolled, it couldn't be used to change that Edsel into a Caddy, but it could keep the Edsel running smoothly.

Only under the right stresses. Regeneration is going to require fuel, so if you are regrowing extensive limb damage or trying to keep your abdominal cavity's contents where they belong, your fat cells are likely to get sucked dry unless you have a steak or two handy. A chubby regenerator is one who hasn't had to use it recently...

The Droyne are past masters at shaping a newly Casted youth, so obviously some combination of psionic disciplines leads to "Flesh Shaping".

Don't know about it restoring the damage caused by aging, but I'm sure you could work out a Psionic power to eliminate the cumulative negative DM that applies to new aging rolls.

Your character may not get any younger, but he won't get any older, either.
