Recluce a la Runequest

Cleokatrah

Mongoose
This is an appeal to anyone who is familiar with The Saga of Recluce series by L.E Modesitt. I will be running a game based on his world, using Runequest mechanics. There will be no cults or no runes, in fact no type of magic at all except sorcery (RQ Companion). What I need to do is create/find spells that mimic the mages' abilities, mainly the black and the grey.

For blacks, I need to duplicate a weather mage. I'm trying to stay with the SRD because my online players don't have the books, and other than lightning, there is nothing out there for calling storms/rain/etc (create geysers?)

For greys, I need to replicate their earth ability. (I know, this is a black ability too, but here it is only greys). By this, I mean things like restructuring land (create quicksand), crumble stone, etc.

If anyone has any ideas, directional pokes, I would appreciate it.

I am not familiar with L.E Modesitt but I will say this - in RQ Weather has always been dominated by Gods. Weather related magic is mostly Divine Magic as a result.

There doesn't seem to be much in the way of weather related magic in the SRD but the Cults 1 book may have some you could convert to sorcery - or just use as a guideline for designing your own sorcery spells. Just remember that 1 point of Divine Magnitude is equal to 2 points of Sorcery Magnitude.

There are many more spells in the upcomming spell book but I don't know if that is ever going to be made open content. I doubt it - but then I doubted monsters would be released as an SRD as well. It may or may not have weather based sorcery.

I think in the end though you will just end up having to create some spells yourself.

If you don't mind a pointer, there are some Rune Spells in (our) Petty-Magick book that are weather-related. They can be fairly easily adapted to sorcery given the sorcery magnitude/range/area rules (and I'm doing so but haven't anything out).

Otherwise, there are just the Divine one's in Cog (Rain, Smashing Downpour, etc) that I know of.
