Hello everone. I recently purchased the Traveller Core Rulebook. Just wanted to clarify a few things.

On page 38 in the Charcter Creation Example it states that 'During his first term of service [survival roll required is 4+]. Surely this is a typo and is incorrect as the Merchants Career clearly states on page 23 that the Merchant Marine need to roll a 5+. I assume this is a typo but would just like someone to confirm this for me. Thankyou.

On page 72 in the Wilderness Encounter Checklist number 1 reads 'Determine and terrain types appearing on world in question.'

What is the missing word between Determine and and!! So you determine terrain types but what is the missing word. Its determine something and terrain types but i do not know what this something is. If someone could confirm what the missing word is that would be great.

should best be ignored.

On page 72 in the Wilderness Encounter Checklist number 1 reads 'Determine and terrain types appearing on world in question.'

I have only the German translation of the core rules, but according
to this translation the "and" should be replaced with a "the", there is
no missing word: "1. Determine the terrain types appearing on the
world in question."

Ahhhh ok many thanks rust. Your help is much appreciated. So does that mean that the character creation example is wrong or just the survival roll is incorrect. What else is wrong in the character creation example.

The German version has eliminated some of the problems of the English
original, but as far as I remember there were a couple of errors, not just
the survival roll.

For example, looking at my copy Jameson was promoted to 4th Officer
during his first term. However, I think he should have started at Rank 0,
Crewman, and the promotion would have given him Rank 1, Senior Crew-
man, not 4th Officer - and the skill he got, Mechanic 1, is indeed the skill
for a Senior Crewman, not a 4th Officer.

So, while I do not remember all the details, I remember that the result
of the discussion at the time was to ignore the entire example because of
several errors it contained.

I think somewhere it is stated that the example was created before the rules were finalized and nobody went back and corrected it. Is this still an issue in the latest printing?

Without going to read the section for context, I would suggest maybe a simple typo. Could you replace 'and' with 'any' instead of 'the'?
