Mongoose
Ive downloaded the pdf for the traveller core rulebook called Preview 1 to have a look at character creation. I have the core traveller rulebook. On page 32 of preview 1 it displays a grey chart at the bottom named Ancient Technology. This list 6 options. However in the core rulebook there are only 2 options listed for ancient technology. Anybody know where the other 4 options are?????

Seems weird that the preview displays all the 6 options yet in the main rulebook it displays only 2????

Any help on this greatly appreciated.

Happy Travelling!!!

This is indeed strange, because the German translation has all six options,
which means there must have been an English version of the core rules
with all six options for this translation.

I have both versions of the English MGT Core Rulebook (easily distinguished by the different artwork) and I can confirm the older one has 6 options for "Ancient Technology" while the newer only has 2.

So the OP must own the newer edition of the Core Rulebook. The reason for having full 6 options in "Book 0: An Introduction to Traveller" is simply that what you find in that volume was copy-pasted from the original version of the rulebook.

As for why the newest edition of MGT Rulebook has less information that the old, your guess is as good as mine. To be honest, at this point, I'm beyond caring about Mongoose's editorial decisions. I have heard about their proverbial bad reputation in that area since the earliest edition of the Conan RPG.

ahhh thankyou Vargr. Yes I have the new edition of the core rulebook. I have book 0 as well an introduction to traveller so I must have a look at this and see if the 6 options are in that book. Sounds to me like they are by what you have said.
i also have purchased books 1 -9 and supplements 1-8 so cant wait to see what editorial errors are in these books. Hehehe
Thanks a lot Vargr for your help. Much appreciated.

hey Vargr I have just looked in the introduction to traveller rulebook and i cannot find anywhere where it shows ancient technology. It doesnt appear to be in this book. So basically it was in the first edition rulebook and when they released the second edition they missed out information from the first printing. Sounds daft to me. This means that I am missing information from the core rulebook. Although it is not much it makes the core rulebook incomplete. I dont think ill bother getting the first edition. Maybe I just print off the preview pdf and stick it in my core rulebook.

Ancient Technology
The Ancients left technological wonders scattered throughout space, and these artefacts are sought after by the Imperium as well as rival governments, megacorporations, research institute, criminals and mad scientists. Those lucky enough to find such artefacts may have made their fortunes - or signed their death warrants. Ancient artefacts range in size from personal items or weapons to starships, or even vast ringworlds millions of kilometres across. The more intact an Ancient device is, the more likely it is to be defended...

The artefact
1. ...is severely damaged. The characters will need to find the missing parts to repair it.
2. ...is a fake, planted by a criminal gang who intended to sell the location to the Imperium. By removing the artefact, the characters have unwittingly foiled the gang and incurred their wrath.
3. ...has military applications - it could be a weapon, or a personal force shield. If the characters can discover how to operate it, they can use it to survive.
4. ...is intelligent, and has its own agenda.
5. ...opens up a portal to a distant planet or even a pocket universe.
6. ...is planetary in scale - an orbital, an artificial planet, a rosette, even a ringworld.
