Rank "7"

What happens when one rolls successfully for advancement when one is already Rank 6?

I seem to remember that rolling for +1 Social Standing when one is already Social Standing 15 gives a Ship Benefit, but is there something similar for Rank?

If it's not in the rules, I'd be inclined to house rule it to give +1 Social Standing instead.

First, your character would need to be very lucky and old to gain Rank 6 (age 42 minimum). Rank isn't supposed to be easy. If one is that fortunate, I see nothing in the rules saying you get a bonus for having an advancement higher than the maximum rank just like you get no bonus for having Jack-of-Trades at zero or above four. Time to go adventure before going on Social Security.

In T4 Social Standing 16 would make the character an Archduke/Archduchness and at 17 the character is an Emperor/Empress.
Meanwhile T20 Social Standing 16 would make the character an Archduke/Archduchness and at 17 the character is a Crown Prince/Crown Princess, and 18 the Emperor/Empress.

CT LBB 5 HG 2e Rank 6 is O7 Fleet Admiral, O8 Sector Admiral, and O9 Grand Admiral.

My feeling is that the character would start over on the benefits of rank table.

You can have subranks: Admirals have hierarchies.

The Imperial family should be like dragons; you've heard about them, but never seen one in real life, and the only way into that is by marriage, coup d'etat, or rebellion.

That would be a kick-ass campaign.
