Ranged Combat and Portable Cover

I was rereading The Chasm of Doom and noted the use of a Mantlet during the siege by a spell caster. Normally spell casters, archers and gunners can't use shields or if they can they can't gain a CS benefit for their prefered method of attack.

A Pavise is essentially a Sommlending Great Shield with a built in stand so it can stand up with out needing to be held. Often used by crossbow men because it allowed them to expose very little of themselves while shooting and were completely covered when they knelt down to reload the crossbow.

A Mantlet, speciffically like the one shown in the book was essentially a section of reinforced wall on a wheeled frame. It could protect more than one person, allowed the use of Long bows and in some cases they had little armored windows so you could look around or shoot without needing to step out to the side and thus expose yourself to incoming fire.

So with that in mind how would a Pavise or Mantlet function in the LWM combat mechanics?

When deployed they are not used like a standard shield, thus they are not really armor. But they do give a very important combat benefit in that you have portable cover.

Admittedly a normal Pavise would be no defense against a standard area of affect attack spell or any kind of firearm, but it is very portable. A wheeled Mantlet on the other hand would probably need to be hit with a small cannon to be breached, but it is less mobile and thus it can be easily flanked.

Also how would things change if the Pavise or Mantlet was made out of non-standard materials like Kagonite, Bronin, etc.?
