Raider Variants

How about a large vessel very slow, short ranges filled with fighters it could act as a raider flagship or something. I do think that the raiders need alot more speed to fit what they do, maybe a dutie rigged drazi vessel would be good.
 
well Triggy has put this forward to the playtest group. I have added my support as well but I have also said why not do something similar for patrol through battle PLs. this way you can have the standard ships for raiders then extra choices at each level that also allow for lots of cool conversions from pretty much any ship in the game.

i thought the avenger would be a good hull for the raiders to get their hands on for the same reasons
 
The Avenger would make a brilliant hull, with some slight variation it would suit the raiders down to the ground. I will have to think about it.
 
Well ive thought about it and this is what ive come up with. I'm unsure about the PL raid or battle so a little help would be worthwhile.

Avenger Class Raider Ship

Occasionally, maybe after a prolonged period of conflict or sometimes on the sly a group of raiders would get hold of an avenger class ship. This ship has proved invaluable on several occasssions when the need of its huge hangers was prominant. Some say they have done a better job than the EA but the raiders can never get it running as efficiancly as it could.

Damage 40/10
Crew 50/12
Craft 12 Delta V flights
Special Rules:
Carrier 4 Fleet carrier Jump point Interceptors 1.

Didn't the Avenger only carry 8 Starfuries onboard? I can't remember, but I thought the Delta-V were slightly larger than the Starfuries. I might be wrong there and Raiders were always good at "strapping" their ships onto their hulls.
 
looks good. all i'd change is maybe make the craft V2s (obviously depending on ISDs but i wouldn't have thought they would have gotten their hands on the discared hulls until after the poseidon (sp?) became the main carrier.) Would also increase the interceptors (thre raiders seem tohave gotten the hang of them quite well) and could think of replacing the medium pulse cannon with the medium laser cannon, like on the battlewagon. I would say its a battle PL ship myself but its very good. The avenger did only carry 8 Starfuries but the raiders don't use cobra bays, so may be able to fit more in? But overall looks good - between us we've created a completly new fleet list for the raiders!
 
I like the Avenger raider variant, but it seems to fall down the crack between raid and battle.

It definatly needs more interceptors, I would say 3 or 4D of them. What about if they took some of those spare missile systems they got off the Sagi's and clumped a few on the front of the Avenger.

Missiles Fore range 30, 4AD, SAP, SL, Precise. (can only use standard missiles)

I'd quite like this in principle although with the Raiders fluff, if there is a Battle PL option, it would have to be at least a little limited (and probably incorporate the Nova) otherwise they'd start to become a truely war-scale fleet. I'm having some thoughts over the options though :)
 
I'm of the view that the Raiders should be almost all Patrol, Skirmish, and Raid ships. On the other hand a few unique Battle hulls representing famous Raiders would be fun. They'd have a rule saying that you can only include one in your fleet as these highly egotistical individuals would never work together. :lol:
 
if they can have a battle pl base they should have battle pl ships, even if they only use them as mobile bases. Thought the avioki could be a good hull, but in my variant just made it a usual fighting ship anyway!
 
Ok then. Thanx for the advice and i do agree that it fits in between the raid and battle gaps so heres a few ajustments.

Well i think that fits into Battle PL and should make a very nice ship acting as a mobile fortress/carrier.
 
Hmm nice ideas but I do think Triggys ideas for Generic, modifiable ships fit excellently into the Raider mindset and provide some fun opportunities!?

Hope to see them in 2nd ed? :D
