racing yacht design

Banded Mongoose
When the PC finished the Cold Fusion arc, their reward was a yacht. But I thought, why just any yacht, why not a racing yacht for those interplanetary races that nobles love to waste money on?

I had room on the back of the upper deck, and thought, what a place for an outdoor wooden deck for the hot tub and lounge area when the ship is sitting down on the ground somewhere. Or, perhaps it can have a clear dome stretch out over it? Can anti-grav keep water in the hottub in open space/zero-G?

Something came up in the last game session: How do the people get down to the ground on a landed ship?
1) add an outside lift from the airlock to the ground (which I did for the game session);
2) add/put an airlock+ramp on the bottom deck, but this was designed as a modification to the standard yacht.

Side note: reason for Jump 2 is that the group is an area of space where mains are rare, and the noble wanted to get around places AND get to races sooner (for the pre-race parties, of course).

I saw that Traveller 5 went past 6 as maximum drive rating (finally!). I never liked the limit anyway. So I modified my Core Book ship designer spreadsheet for higher drives by following the drive rating pattern in the charts in the book (i.e., 3 3s, 3 4s, 3 5s, so continue with: 3 6s, 3 7s, 3 8s, etc).
This is the highest Gs I could get, with just enough staterooms for double bunking of the crew (pilot, astrogator/navigator, 4 engineers):

You might squeeze out 28Gs with compact bridge and one less stateroom, but that might impact the negative DMs enough. I doubt you want negative DMs at 28Gs. Using Basic Civilian sensors is probably dangerous enough.

I have not added high tech affecting size to my spreadsheet, yet.

This could be another design contest, racing ships, with certain criteria, say, for different racing classes or divisions. A yacht class division(s) might have it that it has to be able to be used as a yacht when not racing (meaning comfortable staterooms, longer duration, jump drives, vehicles, etc). Some races might be interstellar (*ahem* "The Kessel" trophy :mrgreen: ) and some classes might require both high jump and high Gs.
