Questions from a newbie

Hya, just been having a look through a number of the old articles in S&P and scanning through some of the posts. I already play B5:ACTA so I already know I'll like the system I was just wondering about models: who would you suggest and what sort of quality are they likely to be? Also what do you guys do about planes?

Hi there,

The two names you will hear the most are GHQ and Navwar.

GHQ produce quite large models and are very well detailed. Navwar less so, but extremely affordable :)

I use Navwar for my own fleets, and are very happy with them.

If you're in the States, I would highly recommend either:

a) Skytrex/Davco through Warweb.com. This is the best option if you're looking for inexpensive and are interested in 1/3000 scale.

b) If you're willing to pay a little more and want to play a slightly larger scale, the 1/2400 scale models from Viking Forge are excellent. They have 80% of the detail of GHQ (one of the most detailed out there) but are about 1/3 - 1/2 the price.

If you're in Europe, Navwar is probably your best bet.

I've had a look at the GHQ ships and like the look and quality of detail, but with it being an American site I'm a bit concerned about the shipping and such. Does anyone know of any UK stockists?

Also, I was wondering what people suggested in the way of planes; do I use counters or models and if so where from?

Oh and thanks for the advice guys.

I have used wargames emporium, over the net to buy my GHQ models, without any problems.

My fleet is small but expanding around 10 ships. (Most of my funds goes into CTA).

The detail on GHQ is stunning for the scale. Be warned some of the very very small pices are a real pain to locate and glue. I kid you not that I have on occasion had to resort to a magnifying glass to make sure I have located the really samll pieces right.

Great quality, Great apearance on the table, Great (as in large) price.
